Sarah Sherman has set the premiere date for her first HBO comedy special. The hour long show, titled Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh, will air on Friday, December 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. Viewers can also stream the special on HBO Max. The program is directed by Cody Critcheloe and showcases Sherman’s bold humor.
What to Expect
In Live + In the Flesh, Sherman drops the SNL straitjacket after four seasons on the live sketch show. She delivers a raw, bodily‑fluid‑filled performance that mixes open‑wound confessionals with jokes that linger long after the laugh. The special feels like a personal confession mixed with a wild comedy experiment. Transition words such as “first,” “next,” and “finally” guide the audience through each segment, keeping the flow smooth for readers.
Sherman’s Rise on SNL
Sherman joined Saturday Night Live as a featured player in October 2021. She earned a promotion to repertory status in October 2023. Since then, she has become one of the show’s standout performers. Her unique characters, especially the alter ego Sarah Squirm, have earned a dedicated fan base. This new HBO special marks her first major solo project outside the SNL framework.
Other Projects
Beyond SNL, Sherman appeared in the Netflix film *You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah* and will act in the upcoming Netflix ensemble comedy *Roommates*. She also has a role in the untitled BriTANicK pizza movie that will stream on Hulu. These projects show her versatility across film and television.
HBO’s Comedy Lineup
HBO continues to expand its comedy slate this year. In September, the network released Caleb Hearon’s *Model Comedian*. It also added Bill Maher’s *Is Anyone Else Seeing This?*, Brett Goldstein’s *The Second Best Night of Your Life*, and Marc Maron’s *Panicked*. Sherman’s special joins a strong roster of original comedy content, giving subscribers fresh reasons to tune in.
Production Team
Sherman writes and performs the special herself. She also serves as an executive producer alongside Lorne Michaels, Hilary Marx, and Taylor Segal for Broadway Video; Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Josh Safdie for Central; Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science; Dan McManus; and Jack Bensinger. This collaborative effort ensures a polished final product.
