Cody Rhodes steps onto the set of the upcoming Street Fighter film and talks about the challenges of playing Guile. He tells us the experience feels “really, really unique.” Rhodes explains that he never performed on wires before, so he had to learn new tricks for the role.
Rhodes says he wanted to try the famous flash kick. He watched old videos of Jean Claude Van Damme to understand the move. He then practiced the kick with the stunt team until he could land it safely. The training helped him feel ready for the big fight scenes.
Working With a Mixed Cast
Rhodes sits with Roman Reigns and other newcomers from different fields. He says they all feel like leaders in their own worlds. The director, Kitao Sakurai, shows them a sizzle reel of the film. Rhodes compares the meeting to a Little League team where the coach guides the players.
Rhodes feels the pressure to deliver. He says the crew asks the actors to look at three weeks of footage and then step up. He describes the feeling as running through a brick wall. The intensity pushes him to give his best performance.
Story and Characters
Director Kitao Sakurai sets the story in 1993. The plot follows Ryu and Ken as they reunite for the World Warrior Tournament. Rhodes joins Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun Li, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Curtis 50 Cent Jackson as Balrog, and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Rhodes notes that the cast studies each scene carefully and takes the work seriously.
Rhodes reveals a scene where many characters gather around a big centrepiece halfway through the film. He says this moment will raise the stakes for the tournament.
Release Date
The Street Fighter movie will open in theaters on October 16, 2026. Fans can expect to see Rhodes bring Guile’s iconic moves to life on the big screen.
