The Shocking New Look of Lex Luthor in DC’s Absolute Universe

When DC launched the Absolute Universe, fans expected the familiar bald genius to appear right away. Instead, the series introduced Ra’s Al Ghul as Superman’s first foe. Lex Luthor finally stepped onto the scene in the special issue titled Absolute Evil. This version of Lex looks nothing like the classic villain. He sports a full head of hair, a beard, and a calm demeanor that feels almost friendly.

What Makes This Lex Different?

Writer Al Ewing and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli give Lex a fresh backstory. He lives on a farm with his wife Dora and their children. He describes himself as an angry young man who once envied others, but now he asks, “How can I be of help?” This question hints at a more cooperative side. The new Lex also appears married and grounded, a stark contrast to the ruthless billionaire we know.

Why Does Brainiac Want Him?

Brainiac, the alien cyborg, plots to control the Absolute Justice League. He sees Lex as a counterweight to the chaotic Joker. In a conversation with Mirror Master, Brainiac explains that each member of the league balances another. He believes a well‑adjusted Lex can blunt the Joker’s cruelty. This strategic recruitment adds depth to the villain roster.

What Is the Absolute Justice League?

The league is not a heroic team. It is a coalition of rich villains who fear that superpowered heroes will threaten their profits. They plan to keep the world under their control. However, Brainiac already manipulates the group from within, using Ra’s Al Ghul as a puppet.

First Appearance Details

In the comic’s final scene, Lex answers a phone call with a polite inquiry. The panel shows his new hair and beard clearly, defying the iconic bald look. Fans who follow DC’s comics can now see a Lex Luthor who could actually work with heroes, at least on paper.

Where to Find Absolute Evil #1

Absolute Evil #1 is on shelves in comic shops across the country. Readers can purchase the issue to see the full artwork and dialogue. The issue also reveals more about the Absolute Joker, another mysterious character who hates humor and runs a corrupt empire.

The new Lex Luthor design invites speculation. Will he stay gentle, or will his darker instincts return? Only future issues will tell.
