HYPNOSISMIC Division Rap Battle Hits Over One Million Tickets

The official X account for HYPNOSISMIC Division Rap Battle announced on October 17 that the film finally passed the one million ticket mark. The data comes from Kogyo Tsushinsha and shows a strong fan response across Japan. At the same time the cumulative box office reached 2.5 billion yen, about 16.9 million USD. This achievement places the movie as the sixth highest‑grossing Japanese anime film of 2025, overtaking the 33rd Crayon Shin‑chan release.

Interactive Film Experience

HYPNOSISMIC Division Rap Battle opened in 85 theaters on February 21, 2025. It is Japan’s first interactive anime film. During each screening audiences vote on the rap battle outcomes using a smartphone app. The app prompts five votes per show, and the film contains 48 different story patterns and seven possible endings. This format keeps viewers engaged and encourages repeat visits, helping the ticket sales climb steadily.

Revival Screening Boosts Earnings

In early September the studio launched a large‑scale revival screening to celebrate the franchise’s eighth anniversary. The event ran in 66 theaters nationwide and added roughly 500 million yen, or 3.38 million USD, to the total gross. By early September the box office had already hit two billion yen, equivalent to 13.53 million USD, before the revival boost.

Creative Team Behind the Success

Director Takanori Tsujimoto, known for his work on Resident Evil: Vendetta, led the project at Polygon Pictures. He collaborated with writer Yuichiro Momose, who scripted The Witch and the Beast, and character designer Kazui. The original anime season, which debuted in October 2020, was directed by Katsumi Ono at A‑1 Pictures. Crunchyroll streams both the series and its 2023 sequel, describing the story as a clash of rival rap groups using the Hypnosis Mic to influence the human spirit.

Why Fans Keep Coming Back

The film’s interactive nature gives each audience a sense of control. Viewers can see how their votes shape the rap battles and affect the ending they experience. This unique feature creates buzz on social media and drives word‑of‑mouth promotion. The combination of popular rap culture, compelling animation, and a novel voting system explains the surge in ticket sales.

Looking Ahead for HYPNOSISMIC

With one million tickets sold and a strong box office performance, HYPNOSISMIC Division Rap Battle sets a new benchmark for anime films in Japan. The studio plans to expand the interactive concept to future releases, hoping to attract even larger audiences. Fans eagerly await the next chapter of the Hypnosis Mic universe.
