Bryan Thysse Triumphs to Claim South African Light Heavyweight Crown

On a lively Saturday night at Emperors Palace east of Johannesburg, Bryan Thysse stepped into the ring with a clear goal. He wanted to bring a vacant South African light heavyweight title home to his family. In the ninth round he delivered a powerful right hand that forced referee to stop the fight. The stoppage gave Thysse a technical knockout victory over Michael Head and the championship belt.

Head showed heart and courage. He fought hard but could not match Thysse’s speed. Thysse set a frantic pace early. He aimed at the body and slowed Head down. By the eighth round Thysse landed a flurry of lefts and rights that earned an eight count. He kept the pressure on. In the ninth round he overwhelmed Head and the referee halted the bout.

Undercard Highlights

The night featured more excitement on the undercard. Rising bantamweight Charlton Malajika, known as “Baby Pain,” delivered a fourth‑round TKO against veteran Filipino Froilan Saludar. Malajika trapped Saludar in the corner and unleashed a barrage of power shots that made the referee intervene.

Heavyweight action also stole the spotlight. Juan Alberts crushed Namibian Kareb Shitana with a first‑round TKO, showing improved speed and calm. In a similar fashion Congolese‑based Jose Kadima knocked out Malawi’s Limbani Lano in the opening round after a crushing right hand.

In Cape Town, Khaya Mlata earned a split decision win over Ardy Katompa. The victory gave Mlata the WBC Youth junior featherweight title and marked him as a rising star.

Impact on the Thysse Boxing Family

Thysse’s win adds his name to a family legacy that includes his brother Brandon and late father Andre. The three have now all held national titles. This achievement strengthens the Thysse brand in South African boxing and inspires younger fighters.

The crowd at Emperors Palace celebrated the new champion. Fans cheered as Thysse lifted the belt and thanked his team. The event proved that South African boxing still produces thrilling moments and memorable champions.

Overall the night delivered a mix of knockout power, technical skill, and emerging talent. It reminded fans why South African boxing remains vibrant and why the light heavyweight division is worth watching.
