Terence Crawford Defeats Canelo Álvarez in Historic Netflix Bout

Boxing history was made tonight at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as Terence “Bud” Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) delivered a career-defining performance against Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (62-3-2, 39 KOs). In front of a sold-out crowd of more than 70,000, Crawford earned a unanimous decision victory with scorecards of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.

The win solidifies Crawford’s legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats. Having now defeated one of Mexico’s most celebrated champions, he becomes the first male boxer to secure undisputed championships in three weight divisions during the four-belt era.

Record-Breaking Night in Las Vegas

The atmosphere at Allegiant Stadium was electric as the bout shattered records. The fight generated $47.2 million in gross revenue, the highest single-day gate in the stadium’s history. With 70,482 fans in attendance, it also set the record for the largest crowd ever inside Allegiant Stadium and the second-highest indoor boxing attendance in U.S. history, surpassing Muhammad Ali vs. Leon Spinks II.

The star-studded audience reflected the magnitude of the event, with celebrities including Mike Tyson, Charlize Theron, SZA, Mark Wahlberg, Magic Johnson, Dave Chappelle, and Mr. Beast all watching ringside.

Crawford controlled much of the fight with his technical precision and composure, frustrating Álvarez from the opening rounds. Afterward, he spoke about his mindset and the magnitude of the victory:

“When I set my sights on doing something and I know what I’m capable of, it’s not like a surprise to me. It’s a surprise to y’all because y’all didn’t believe me … but for me, I knew I could do it, I just needed the opportunity.”

He credited faith and preparation for his performance, emphasizing that his victory was no accident.

“God don’t make no mistakes. It’s no mistake that I’m here for a reason … it’s God’s plan, not my plan.”

When asked if this was his signature win, Crawford was definitive:

“For sure, this is definitely a signature win … moving up two weight classes, being the B side, fighting a guy that’s been undefeated in the division, undisputed … of course this means a lot.”

For Canelo, the defeat marks the first time in over a decade that he does not hold a world title. Still, he remained gracious in defeat and praised his opponent’s skill.

“We knew Crawford is a great fighter. I did what I was supposed to do, right? I trained really hard and he deserves all the credit. I tried my best tonight and I just could not figure out the style.”

Álvarez also acknowledged his struggles in the later rounds.

“Sometimes you try and your body cannot go, right? That was my frustration. Maybe I could figure out Crawford, but my body could not go anymore. I tried, but my body didn’t let me. You need to accept it. That’s it.”

In a striking admission, Canelo even compared Crawford favorably to Floyd Mayweather, the only other fighter to defeat him in such convincing fashion:

“I think Crawford is way better than Floyd Mayweather.”
