Miles Davis Catalog Sale

Reservoir Media Secures Miles Davis Legacy and Plans Centennial

Reservoir Media announced it has completed the Miles Davis catalog acquisition. The company now owns publishing rights, recorded music, and name and likeness opportunities for the legendary jazz trumpeter. Executives said the deal will help preserve the artist’s work for future generations.

Centennial Celebration Plans Unveiled

In preparation for the Miles Davis centennial 2026, Reservoir Media is working with the estate. The estate includes daughter Cheryl Davis, son Erin Davis, and nephew Vincent Wilburn Jr. Together they will launch a series of events that honor the musician.

Feature Film and Live Shows

A feature film titled “Miles & Juliette” will explore Davis’s romance with French singer Juliette Greco. The film is being developed with River Road Entertainment and Mick Jagger’s Jagged Films. In addition, an international symphonic show will pair Davis’s sound with original orchestration and archival footage.

International Tour and Jazz Programs

The M.E.B. (formerly Miles Electric Band) will embark on a world tour that includes four nights at SFJazz in March. The tour will highlight the centennial celebration and bring new audiences to the music.

Impact on Jazz Legacy Preservation

Industry observers note that this acquisition strengthens Reservoir Media music rights portfolio. The company already holds catalogs for jazz greats like Sonny Rollins and modern artists such as Joni Mitchell. Adding the Miles Davis catalog shows a clear commitment to jazz legacy preservation.

Erin Davis expressed excitement, saying the partnership will open new ways to share her father’s influence. Vincent Wilburn Jr. added that the respect shown by Reservoir Media will help keep the music alive. CEO Golnar Khosrowshahi highlighted the honor of caring for such a vital part of music history.

Reservoir’s Vice President of A&R and Marketing David Hoffman noted that the deal aligns with the firm’s goal to innovate while honoring tradition. He said the catalog will reach listeners on streaming platforms and social media, ensuring the music stays relevant.

Fans can look forward to a wave of new releases, documentaries, and live experiences that celebrate the genius of Miles Davis. The partnership promises to keep his sound fresh for both longtime admirers and new listeners.

Overall, the Miles Davis catalog acquisition marks a milestone for Reservoir Media and the jazz community. It sets the stage for a vibrant centennial celebration and a lasting impact on music culture.
