Orlando Bloom Says He Would Hate Seeing Anyone Else Play Legolas in New Gollum Film

Orlando Bloom recently told Today that he has not heard any official word about returning as Legolas. He explained that the upcoming The Hunt for Gollum focuses on the creature Gollum, but the idea of a new actor stepping into the elf shoes makes him uneasy. Bloom said, “I would hate to see anyone else play Legolas.” He added that modern technology could even create a digital Legolas, which he finds unsettling.

Why He Would Hate a New Actor

Bloom has lived with the character for more than twenty years. He first appeared as the silver‑haired archer in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy, starting with The Fellowship of the Ring. He continued the role in The Two Towers and The Return of the King. He also returned for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies. Bloom calls Legolas “an amazing part” and says he feels grateful for the experience.

What We Know About The Hunt for Gollum

The new film takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It will follow Middle‑earth heroes as they try to locate Gollum after he loses the One Ring. The story hints at events from The Fellowship of the Ring, such as Bilbo’s discovery of the ring and Gollum’s capture by Sauron’s forces.

Confirmed Cast Members

While Bloom’s return remains uncertain, fans can count on two familiar faces. Ian McKellen confirmed at the For the Love of Fantasy convention that he will reprise his role as Gandalf. Elijah Wood also announced that he will return as Frodo Baggins. Their involvement adds excitement to the project.

Release Date and Fan Expectations

The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2027. Fans hope the movie will respect the tone of the original saga while exploring new ground. Many wonder if the film will feature Legolas at all, given the time period. Bloom’s comments suggest he would prefer to keep the role to himself.

Overall, Orlando Bloom remains protective of his iconic elf. He enjoys the idea of new stories in Middle‑earth, but he would rather see his own performance stay on screen. As the release date approaches, more details about casting and plot will likely emerge.
