Absolute Joker

Joker Turns Into a Dragon Beast in Absolute Batman Issue 15

Fans of DC comics have just seen a Joker that looks nothing like the clown they know. In Absolute Batman #15 the villain appears as a massive dragon like creature. The new design shocks readers and raises many questions about how Batman will face such a monster.

What does the new Joker look like?

Absolute Batman launched in October 2024 as the first title in DC’s Absolute Universe line. The series reimagines the Dark Knight as a 24 year old civil engineer who works on real world projects. Until now the Joker has only been hinted at in the series. Writer Scott Snyder finally revealed the cover of issue 15, drawn by Nick Dragotta, and it shows a Joker with scaled skin, sharp teeth and a long tail. The creature resembles a dragon more than a clown. The design abandons the classic purple suit and white face paint. Instead the villain wears torn armor and his grin is a feral snarl.

How the story explains the change

The solicitation for the issue says that Alfred Pennyworth will tell Bruce the dark history behind the new Joker. It reads, “Alfred reveals to Bruce the story of the man he has chased for years. Enter Joker! Scott Snyder and Jock reunite for an epic tale in the Absolute Universe!” This suggests that the monster form is the result of a tragic experiment or a supernatural curse.

Fan reaction on social media

Twitter users posted their surprise as soon as the cover appeared. One fan wrote, “bro what did batman do to deserve this” while another asked, “wtf is batman supposed to do bro”. A third comment compared the fight to battling a boss from a popular video game. The overall tone shows disbelief and excitement. Readers wonder if the new Joker will be a permanent change or a one time event.

How the new Joker fits the Absolute Universe

The Absolute line has already shown larger versions of classic villains. Absolute Killer Croc appears as a huge reptile and Absolute Bane is a towering figure. The dragon like Joker continues this trend of exaggerating physical traits to match the gritty tone of the series. By making the Joker a monster, the creators raise the stakes for Bruce and give the story a fresh visual hook.

Issue 15 will hit stores on December 10, 2025. It features interior art by Jock, who also supplies a variant cover. Other variants come from Ben Oliver, Brian Bolland and Sanford Greene. Collectors can expect high quality printing and vibrant colors that highlight the Joker’s new form.

Whether the dragon Joker will become the new standard for the character remains to be seen. For now, the reveal gives fans a reason to pick up the comic and discuss the bold direction of the Absolute Universe.
