Phil Lord & Christopher Miller Bring Archie Comics to the Big Screen

New Archie Adventure on the Horizon

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind the Spider‑Verse and The LEGO Movie, have announced a new live action film that will bring the classic Archie Comics characters to the big screen. The project is set to be produced by Universal Pictures and will feature a fresh script written by comic book writer Tom King.

Meet the Creative Team

Tom King, who has worked on several popular comics, will adapt the iconic Archie stories for film. Universal Pictures will handle the production, while Aditya Sood, Emma Watts and Jon Goldwater will also produce the movie.

What the Directors Say

In a statement, the directors shared their excitement: “We are longtime fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the gang in all of their iterations. When we heard Tom King’s take on the classic material, we instantly thought it made sense as an event movie for all audiences — both lifelong fans and a whole new generation. We’re so excited to bring these beloved characters to the big screen.”

Why Archie Matters

Archie Comics have sold over 3 billion copies in the past 85 years. The characters have already appeared in TV shows like Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the Katy Keene series, as well as in the Josie and the Pussycats film. This new film will add another chapter to the long list of adaptations and bring the original stories to a wider audience.

What’s Next for Lord and Miller

Before this new project, Lord and Miller will release Project Hail Mary in March and work on Spider‑Man: Beyond the Spider‑Verse, which is slated for a June 2027 release. The Archie film will follow closely, giving fans a fresh reason to watch the directors’ work.
