DC Studios Considers Mister Terrific Spin-Off After New Trademark Filing
The Superman cinematic universe may be expanding. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures are reportedly eyeing two new spin-off shows, with one centered on Mister Terrific. James Gunn, the writer and director of the Superman movie, appears to be laying the groundwork for a broader DCU television slate.
Trademark Filings Fuel Speculation
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal and spotted by DC Films News on X, DC has filed new trademarks for both Mr. Terrific and Mister Miracle. These filings cover a wide range of categories, including motion pictures, suggesting that the characters may be featured in upcoming projects.
While Mister Miracle is already known to be getting an animated series led by Tom King, the inclusion of Mister Terrific is new and notable. This move could indicate that DC is serious about giving Edi Gathegi’s version of the character his own show.
Gathegi’s Multi-Project Deal Adds Fuel
Actor Edi Gathegi, who plays Mister Terrific in Gunn’s Superman, revealed to Variety that he has a multi-project deal with DC. Although the exact terms are still under wraps, Gathegi commented on Gunn’s methodical approach to production: “What James is driving home is the idea that they’re never going to rush into production with scripts that aren’t ready.”
This aligns with DC Studios’ broader strategy of building out its cinematic universe with high-quality, well-developed stories rather than rushing to hit arbitrary deadlines.
Jimmy Olsen Also in the Mix
Alongside Mister Terrific, DC is reportedly considering a second spin-off featuring Skyler Gisondo’s portrayal of Jimmy Olsen. As with the Mister Terrific trademark, this potential show would build out the supporting world around Superman without relying solely on its marquee characters.
What This Means for the DCU
While trademark filings do not guarantee production, they are often an early sign that studios are protecting names they plan to use. Combined with Gunn’s previous statements about a connected DCU, these moves suggest that the studio is exploring multiple ways to extend the upcoming Superman reboot beyond just the big screen.
Whether Mister Terrific gets greenlit or not, the groundwork for a much larger and interconnected DCU appears to be underway.
