Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot Teases a Thrilling Adventure
Zach Cregger, the director of the upcoming ‘Resident Evil’ reboot, has been sharing details about the film’s direction and connection to the beloved video game franchise.
Why Cregger Wanted to Reboot ‘Resident Evil’
In an interview, Cregger revealed that he’s a huge fan of the ‘Resident Evil’ games and wanted to create a film that honors the experience of playing them.
Cregger, who played all the games, including ‘Resident Evil 4’ numerous times, said, “I’m obsessed with it. And so, I just want to tell a story that feels like it’s honoring the experience you get when you play the games.”
What to Expect from the ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot
Cregger described the film as being built in the spirit of the games, following a central protagonist as they descend deeper into a dark world. He also mentioned that the film will capture the sense of tension and fear that players experience when exploring the games’ dark passageways.
Cregger explained, “There’s a moment in every ‘Resident Evil’ game where you find yourself standing in the mouth of a dark passageway. One shot in the gun is left. You know that something horrible is waiting for you. That’s something the games have perfected, and it’s what keeps players returning.”
The ‘Resident Evil’ reboot is set to be released on September 18, 2026.
