Asteroids and Emmerich

Like his work, despise it or fall somewhere in between, Roland Emmerich has his audience, and he can deliver stupid movies with popcorn moments. Asteroids -based on the classic arcade game- could fall into the ID4 helmer’s hands. Cinemablend reports:

Universal has only offered the project to Emmerich, and who knows, maybe Will Smith will finally cooperate and agree to make that Independence Day sequel, meaning he’s no longer available. But having gotten a lot of guilty delight out of 2012, Emmerich seems about perfect to handle Asteroids, a giant space movie so unconcerned with taking itself seriously

I’m not the biggest Emmerich fan. I fall somewhere in the ;in between’ area, I’ll admit to liking his films before ID4. With the exception of The Patriot, I hated everything else. In fact, as I write this I’m tempted to start on another infamous 10000 BC or 2012 rant…but I won’t. Instead, I’ll be an optimist and say…this may just be the one of the few video games to feature that will actually work. Why? With only the flying saucers and the asteriod belt, there are NO prewritten characters and no baggage.

The only real question is if it will be in 3D or in Vector.
Int’l friends, chime in…

  1. I have to say that I enjoyed independance day alot and look forward to the idea of another movie being made. Most movies these days do not have much of a story line, or, they have rehashed plots, which means that in the end the grahics need to be the wow factor. I think it will come out in 3D for sure. People will go and see it for the special effects!
