Reznor to Score Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

When I saw Trent Reznor as a musical credit for The Social Network, I just assumed a Nine Inch Nails song was in the soundtrack, but the rocker did compose the film’s score, and then went on to win an Oscar for it.

So no surprise that we hear he has been offered a job to score another film – Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be precise – but he may be acting in the film as well?

According to sources close to Badass Digest, Reznor has been brought on to score the upcoming history-meets-monsters mash-up, ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.

But not only that, Reznor will also apparently be portraying the vampire that — SPOILERS — kills Lincoln’s mom!

Now I was pleasantly surprised to see the rough and gritty musician win an Oscar, but at the end of the day he IS a musician.

However it does make me nervous when I hear about Musicians getting roles in movies as actors. Granted this part may be very minor, so its not a lot of nervousness, but I am interested to see if Reznor makes the leap from writing hard rock, to writing movie scores.

I’m just not interested in seeing him as an actor.

  1. I think this sounds perfect and if it’s true he is to score this one it sets the right mood i think. FYI it couldn’t care what the social network score came from originally but jesus christ i was blown away by it. Can’t even rememeber that last time the score made such an impression.

  2. Could this be something more of a cameo or a little goof to throw in there, like Stan Lee or M Night Shamalan always stepping in for a line or two in their movies? I wouldn’t jump to conclusions and suggest suddenly it’s the biggest part of the movie.

Furthermore, I don’t think there’s any correlation to musicians going into acting and whether or not that acting’s good. Think of all the bad actors out there, then think of Oscar-winning Sher, Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson and even Whitney Huston or Madonna’s good roles. As someone who was involved in musical theater for a long time, and has done a lot of both singing and acting, there’s really not so much of a difference. A successful singer not only has to be able to sing well, but sell their music… which is very similar to acting. Indeed, a musical theater guy like myself may suggest it’s a distinction without a difference.

And if any singer of the past 30-40 years oozes zombie, isn’t it Trent? If it is actually a legit part, and the zombies aren’t just as mindless as they are multiplied (I’ve never read the book, so I don’t know), I have a gut feeling Trent would do fine…

    1. Ryan,

I HAVE read the book and the part, although instrumental in pushing Abraham Lincoln towards hunting vampires, is indeed a minor role.

I’m not a huge fan of Metal music but I can see where a driving guitar and bass line will definitely help the fight scenes.

Also, the film doesn’t involve Zombies at all. It involves Vampires so Trent would need to look a bit more “dapper and sophisticated” to say the least.

  3. You actually aren’t that far off. Most of the tracks from The Social Network were actually just tracks from an album he put out years ago entitled “Ghosts I-IV.” Which made me even more surprised that the academy allowed his score to be up for an Oscar, but hey, what do I know?

    1. There were actually only 2 tracks in the entire film from the Ghosts album. Neither of those tracks appeared on the “for your consideration” albums which were given to the academy.

“In the Hall of the Mountain King” was also removed from the “for your consideration” version as well for obvious reasons.
