Columbus Short returns for Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming

Because financially there is no reason NOT to make a sequel to Stomp the Yard. And they have signed on Columbus Short to reprise his role for the sequel.

Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming.

Worst Previews says:

Columbus Short (Whiteout, Armored), who starred in the original Sony Screen Gems release, is in negotiations to reprise his role as DJ, a master street dancer. Other casting is under way. The sequel is set to shoot early next month in Atlanta.

The first “Stomp the Yard” film hit theaters in January of 2007 and went on to earn $75 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $13 million budget.

I have to admit these dance movies do have their entertainment value. Between all of the performance numbers the acting doesn’t have to be great. People are not going to see that stuff.

And the chorographed to perfection dance scenes are fun to watch regardless of the rest of the movie. I expect the same out of this even if the acting is average at best.

And with the low cost of filming, no special effects, no massive name to pay, this is the perfect opportunity to make a few bucks for the studio.

  2. Columbus is a breath of fresh air. I have enjoyed watching him. I believe he’s a gem thats is worth it’s weight in gold. I hope for continued success for this wonderful inspiring actor.

  3. I love how people are commenting about the dancing but not the stepping which the movie was trying to show…I LOVED THE FIRST ONe it gave more insight to HBCU and Histrically black sorrorities and fraternities and how the south takes pride into the art of stepping we celebrate it…HOWEVER the cas of the second one minus a couple people like TWITCH (for his sick dancing skills) and POOCH cause he’s just awesome and a couple others i’m kind of dissapointed especialy with the choice of a cheetah girl REALLY her acting sucks and she can’t sing so why was she picked AND WHY ISN’T MEGAN RETURNING…BUT IN THE END I FEEL THE FOCUS OF THESE MOVIES WERE MORE ON STEPPING THAN DANCING AND SHOWING THE BOND IN A FRAT…i also love the fact they shot this on CAU’s casmpus the same place Spike Lee’s College Daze was shot it must definitely get them into character to be around such rich history and the fact that that spellman and morehouse are right around the way I HOPE I FEEL UP TO SEEING IT BUT RIGHT NOW WITH THE CAST SELETION I HAVE TO SEE PREVIEWS BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND.

  4. Yeah baby, I’ve been waiting for this, I really loved part 1, the only thing that sucked about part 1 was that Chris Brown was killed off, it would of been better if he wasn’t. But the movie was really good & so was the dancing on that movie. Colombus Short did a great job & part 2 will be a good movie if he is in it! They should also put the boy named Moose from step up 2 the streets & Marques Houston cause they are really good dancers! I’m excited, can’t wait until it comes out, I will definitely be going 2 the theatres to watch part 2 just like I did part 1!

  5. I remembering seeing this film and I was surprised that it was actually kind of good. The moves were good and the acting was decent. It wasn’t as bad as “You Got Served” (God that was horrible acting). But I think Short does a decent job in his films. I would probably see the sequel but wait for it on dvd not go watch it in theaters.
