The Hobbit In IMAX 3D – Not Right Now

I am really looking forward to The Hobbit, and I think with Guillermo Del Toro in charge it is in good hands.

Lately the question has come up with all these epics being presented in 3d or on IMAX, would The Hobbit get the royal treatment?

“I think that we are experienced enough, I guess would be the term, to know that we should not daydream about [things like that] when we write the screenplay,” he said of whether or not he was even flirting with 3D or IMAX as possibilities. “Right now what we have is, you don’t have two filmmakers and two screenplay writers – you have four screenplay writers. We’ll be talking about 3D, on IMAX – but [not] right now.”

Del Toro is a fan of the 3d movement and claims that seeing ‘Polar Express’ in 3D and IMAX left his life “completely transformed”. So while he says “not right now” he isn’t saying No either.

Just that he is focusing on other aspects of film making before addressing the post treatment of the film.

And he isn’t just a fan of IMAX, he is a shareholder, so there is also a little motivation that way too. Do you think The Hobbit will be more epic in IMAX? Will it be a shame if it DOESN’T get the IMAX?

This seems the perfect type of film to put up on the really big screen.

  1. I wouldn’t mind IMAX but I would hope to not have 3D personally. The 3D in Superman Returns and Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix didn’t impress me. I like them better without that element.

    G. delToro’s Creature work and his Visual Mastery is GODLIKE! The Hobbit is going to be a beautiful piece of Artistic Craftsmanship!
