Well this should be good news to a lot of people. With films like Die Hard 4 adding Justin Long to Bruce Willis and Indiana Jones adding Shia LaBeouf to Harrison Ford, the fact that it’s been 16 years since we last saw Ash in Army Of Darkness had a lot of people worried that when they proceeded with Evil Dead 4, the producers would feel the need to add a younger actor to work along side the immortal Bruce Campbell.
Not to worry says the mighty Campbell. That just ain’t going to happen:
“Sam gets to hide behind the camera. I can’t. But I think he’s planning on factoring that in,” Campbell revealed. “As like a major factor. It’d be a major liability, you know Ash runs out of breath or his back goes out and [stuff] like that. I mean I just blew my hamstring fighting a stunt guy for ‘Burn Notice,’ the show that I’m doing now. So there’s a little bit of truth to all of that!”
The young sidekick character? Yeah, not so much gonna happen in “Evil Dead,” Campbell declared. “I think the audience would be insulted if you did, because then you feel this obvious pressure to appeal,” he said. “The beauty of the ‘Evil Dead’ movies is that you’re only appealing to one demographic and that’s people who like horror movies. And you just have to please them. You don’t have to appeal to the studio. You’re already pleasing them by giving them part 4.”
All hail Bruce and his benevolent wisdom which he showers upon us like mana from heaven! Truth is found in the words of Bruce!
Now let’s be honest here… I still don’t think that an Evil Dead 4 will be very big at the old box office… as a matter of fact I suspect it will do pretty small business, but if they make it for cheap enough, that’s just fine. But even though I don’t think the new film will be “popular”, I personally can’t wait to see it come to life. We need one more good Ash adventure. Bruce never fails. Bruce is all. All hail Bruce.

They could film Evil Dead 4 with a hand-held camera and I would still go and see it, all bow and worship the mighty Bruce Campbell.
Seriously, Bruce has a dedicated following of cult cinema fans who will see this no matter what, that is who they are making this film for!
I have seen all the Evil Dead movies and I see no reason to stop now! :D
“Burn Notice” is great stuff. It’s a nice little action show with wit, Jeff Donovan is cool, Bruce is cool (but we knew that), Gaby Anwar is hot, I like thinking that the protag’s mother is Officer Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Tricia Hefler of BSG has a recurring part in this season as an uber spy that may have had a hand in the lead character’s woes.
Note: last week’s ep had an Oded Fehr sighting!
Better yet, bring in the young gun, then Ash says, ok you can be my sidekick and then…It’s a trick, get an axe and kills him!
WHOOOOOAAAHHHAAAAHHHH
Wait wait wait….
So there IS going to be an Evil Dead 4?!?!
THANK GOD
Cult Classics arent mainstray hits but the have a huge following…..Serenity great movie + Mediocore Box Office= Cult Classic
This has only a little bit to do with the blog…but can someone explain to me what a Cult movie is?? I see alot of movies out there that say “The Cult Classic…Lostboys, Evil Dead series..) what does that mean exactly???
This is actually something I’m really looking forward to and thankfully no sidekick means I’m looking forward to it even more now!
Hail to the king baby!
1992 seems like such a long time ago. I have fond memories of Army of Darkness. I will have to dust it off and see it again.
Hey Jay E
Opppss. Typo. Thanks Jay.
“the fact that it’s been 26 years since we last saw Ash in Army Of Darkness”
You mean 16 years, AoD was released in 1992. Don’t make me feel older than I already am.
Now that i think of it. bruce campball would be awesome as the joker in future batman movies.
This news has completely made my day. And as far as doing it on the cheap, perfect. It’d be weird to see an Evil Dead movie that had too high of a budget. Now for the wait. Hopefully it won’t be too long.
Hey Gene,
No, I’ve never seen it, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good. I don’t watch a lot of TV sadly.
Hey John do you watch burn notice. Bruce is awesome in that show.
