Eli Roth Joins The RZA

RzaKung Fu aficionado RZA will now have some additional backing for his project The Man With the Iron Fist in producer Eli Roth . We get news of this Marvel Team Up from our friends at moviesonlne:

Last week some reports were circulating that RZA was going to direct a new martial arts movie called “The Man With the Iron Fist”. Apparently RZA had been talking to Quentin Tarantino about the project for quite some time and Tarantino told him to go for it.

So where does Eli Roth fit in? Well he was also in the mix wanting to help RZA bring his vision to the screen and jumped on board as producer. This was all rumor until CHUD got in contact with Roth in which he replied back:

“Yes, it is true. RZA’s script is amazing. He has been studying directing with Tarantino for years. and he’s really ready to get behind the camera. His impact on rap music and hip hop culture cannot be measured, and he’s ready to add his own unique style and vision to the world of film. This movie will have everything martial arts fans could want, combined with RZA’s superb musical talent. This project has been his dream for years, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

Me and my friend Wintle were actually talking about The RZA a few weeks back. Wintle saw a Kung Fu film (the name currently escapes me) with RZA doing commentary and said it was outstanding. RZA is a scholar when it comes to Kung Fu films and has a deep love for the genre. I certainly think that such a man would have much to give back to the genre and have a driving desire to make it excellent.

i am extremely curious about this picture. Kung Fu films rule in my books, and if we can get an outlandish classic from RZA – I would pump my iron fist with delight!

As an aside – I recently had the pleasure of watching Five Element Ninjas and suggest that each and every one of you check it out asap. Kung Fu vs. Ninjas!

  1. Tarantino screened three classic kung fu films back to back here in Iceland a couple of years ago and both Eli and The RZA were in attendance, The RZA even introduced one of the films so he’s clearly a geek when it comes to that genre.

But is he ready to direct a feature film? Not according to Johns and Rodney’s rules but I would like to see at least a short film from him to see if he indeed has the chops to tackle a feature.

  3. You can tell he knows knug fu if you listen to the older Wu-Tang Clan music (like Enter the Wu-Tang (36 chambers) which is a hip hop classic) where he puts clips of kung fu movies in the songs.

IF YOU WANT NOISE THEN BRING THE MOTHER F****** RUCKUS

    sorry had to.

  4. The RZA’s commentary was for The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, as released by Dragon Dynasty.

In related news, they screened 36th Chamber at the Fantasia Film Festival this year, with star Gordon Liu in attendance. Liu is possibly my favourite martial arts star, and I’m kicking myself that this was the one year I decided not to attend the festival. He will also be appearing at a kung fu poster exhibit tomorrow. If anyone reading this resides in Montreal, I would highly reccomend going.
