Porky’s Director Bob Clark dies

Director and writer Bob Clark no longer walks among us my friends.

FilmJunk fills us in:

Bob Clark, director of such classics as Black Christmas, A Christmas Story, Porky’s and Baby Geniuses (okay, maybe that last one wasn’t so classic) was killed in a car crash yesterday along with his son. They were driving down the Pacific Coast Highway when a drunk driver in an SUV swerved into oncoming traffic.

Ok, we have to forgive the guy for Baby Genius movies. Sometimes you just gotta pay the bills.

But this guy directed PORKY’S!!! This is the movie that introduced me to what women were all about when I was eight! That alone has shaped my future and taught me not to stick my penis in a hole in a wall that leads to a girls shower. How valuable is that bit of information? Imagine how your world would be had you not learned of this.

That, and the lamp. If Christmas Story taught us anything, it was that a fishnet stocking covered woman’s leg makes a fine lamp suitable for the front window, and that you can take an eye out with a Red Ryder BB gun.

And to top it all off, Bob was a Canadian. Delivering these messages to the masses in popular media.

And let’s not forget She-Man a movie directed and written by Bob in which a soldier is forced to take estrogen and wear lingerie when he’s blackmailed by a violent transvestite. Maybe they will remake this 67 classic with Chris Tucker in it. Gold baby, solid Gold.

RIP Bob Clark, you will be missed. As for the drunk driver (who survived), you deserve far worse than any punishment you ever get.

  1. I went to high school with Bob in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. he was best known in high school as a great QB on the football team and centerfielder on the baseball team. He went on to Hillsdale College in Michigan and had a very good football career in college. “Porky’s” was based on our high school experiences and a bar in Lauderdale named Porky’s.

  2. I don’t think Bob Clark was actually Canadian (I used to think so too). According to the IMDB he was born in New Orleans, and grew up in Michigan and Florida.

He made Porky’s with Canadian government money, but that’s about it.

But regardless of where he’s from, it’s a great loss, and my thoughts go out to his friends and family.

  3. Porky’s? While a fine example of teen sex nonsense, Mr. Clark should be remembered primarily for “A Christmas Story”. I don’t see Porky’s shouldering any annual 24 hour marathons…

As for Mr. Velazquez-Nava, he may be the only illegal immigrant I don’t want to see deported. May he rot for a very long time in an American cell.

  4. Every Christmas we would break out the “Christmas Story” DVD, and watch it while we are setting up the Christmas tree. It’s a tradition in our house. Damn fine movie. The tongue on the frozen pole scene still makes me laugh.

I hate to bring this up, but why is it that when the words “Los Angeles”, “Driving without a license”, and the name “Hector Velazquez-Nava” makes me think illegal immigrant? I am not saying Mr. Nava is an illegal immigrant, but if he is, the authorites should make an example of Mr. Nava and throw the book at him.
