Being from Canada, I was surprised to hear this and I dont know how I missed it. I checked the date on the article, and it was on March 30th, so there is potential for this to have been an April Fools gag. But it looks like Aqua Teen Hunger Force won’t be coming to Canada!
Brandon Gray, president of Box Office Mojo, an online movie publication and box-office reporting service, says Aqua Teen may be popular but it isn’t a cultural phenomenon like Beavis & Butt-Head or South Park. It may fare poorly in theatres.
Gray said First Look may not think there’s enough buzz about the show in Canada.
“It’s probably worth a few bucks at the box office,” Gray said.
“But it’s probably unlikely it will expand the audience enough to make it a hit movie.”
Aqua Teen first aired in Canada in 2004 and has since developed a cult following. The witty, often vulgar characters have wormed their way into popularity with subtle comments on North America’s culture of ignorance and excess.
Self-proclaimed animation geek Killam Templeton-Smith, 19, who works at Silver Snail Comics in downtown Toronto, said Aqua Teen DVDs sell like hotcakes and the shows enjoy a great following.
“It’s irritating,” he said. “But it’s not crippling. A lot of fans are Internet savvy. They’ll end up downloading it anyway.”
Now before you all start flaming me and wondering why I fell for this stupid news, I have yet to find anything that disproves it.
That being said, you would think that this movie was being released by 20th Century Fox who earlier threatened to delay Canadian releases to battle piracy.
So why wouldn’t they release the movie here? At very least, if you lack faith then at least put it in SOME theatres in major centers so the meager fanbase they claim to have here can go see it. I hope the movie breaks records and kicks some ass so we can point our fingers at Cartoon Network and say “SUCKERS” while we download it.
I bet John and Doug are glad that they are getting to see it in LA this week.
Can’t BELIEVE they wouldn’t play it in Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and Calgary OR Edmonton AT LEAST!!!!!
A friend and I were going to see a movie on Monday April 9th, but decided not to, my friend said, “there isn’t anything I want to see.” Then I said, “I wish it was April 13th, there’s a movie I want to see, but you’d never go to it.”
He asked what it was, and being sure he’d never want to see it, I got excited “Aqua Teen Hunger Force the Movie!”.
He says “What the ?!?!!? You’re kidding! That’s gonna be awesome! Though, my wife would kill me if she found out I was going to that!”
I didn’t know he watches it!

Now I find out it’s not playing here (Vancouver, BC, Canada), man I’m pissed off!
Want to go to Seattle to see it. :-D But won’t; hard enough to do that, then throw crossing the border into the mix….. Bet they’d NEVER let me cross if I told them why I’m going there!!!!!

I guess it’ll be direct to DVD everywhere in Europe then. I think John and Doug will have a lot to say about this on tonight’s show.
It is even worse in Switzerland. No one has ever heard of ATHF. Every time I show somoene an episode, they just look at me like I have lost my mind or leave the room. There is 0 chance it will come out in Europe. I think that gives me the right to download it, seeing as the DVD won’t come out over here either.
Well that sucks and pretty stupid too. I don’t get why so many people deniy ATHF’s popularity. Everyone I know atleast knows about the show and many of them watch it all the time. It’s pretty big on MySpace too. I’m often talking to random people on the street about it aswell, talking about our fav episodes or whatever.
Ofcorse I live in the US, but even here the “know it alls” think it’s not a big hit, even though it always has good ratings. I just don’t get it. Unless they don’t like it so they think no one else will either.
Anyway, let the ATHF movie downloads begin!

I’m guessing it won’t be released in Ireland either. Not many people watch ATHF here. Oh and when they don’t release movies here, it makes my piss boil. Like The Fountain was never released here…I really wanted to check it out.
