Its been a while since we have seen a biopic about a musical star, but with all the news of those in the works, I expect a flood of them very soon. Adding to that tidal wave is Debbie Harry. For those of you born in the last 20 years, Harry is the front woman for the 70s pop band Blondie most famous for their hit Heart of Glass. And Debbie Harry has hand picked her actor: Kirsten Dunst!
Kirsten Dunst hinting that she would be taking on the role of a “well-known” singer for Michel Gondry’s next film. Now we’ve got it straight from the horse’s mouth, and I can’t find my duct tape to make it not so. Dunst will portray Blondie front-woman Debbie Harry in an upcoming movie. Whether Gondry is still involved, I don’t know.
The cries of people questioning Kirsten as the famous punk goddess of the 80’s must’ve gotten back to Ms. Dunst. Variety has a quote from the actress, who is very firm about her role and possible naysayers: “She chose me, so anyone who disputes that choice can take it up with her.”
I have always liked Kirsten Dunst. Typically she is in teen pop movies, and most recently putting out a solid performance in Marie Antoinette. I honestly think this girl has chops she hasn’t really shown yet.
Quite frankly, she does have a striking resemblance to a younger Debbie Harry. Now Dunst can sing, but she has a prettier voice than Debbie’s raspy yet sharp power vocals. Its very likely they will voice over Blondie’s music.
What Dunst playing the legandary debbie harry, she doesn’t have the kind of attitude debbie had back then. maybe debbie should come out and say it herelf that she had hand picked Dunst instead of Dunst saying she did.
Fuck This.
You need someone smoking hot to play a young Debbie Harry, not some average looking blonde like Dunst.
Evan Rachel Wood anyone?
and after this she can star in the smashing pumpkins biopic
Elisha Cuthbert should be Debbie Harry. End of story.
Blondie is ten times better looking than Kirsten Corgan.
Walk the line was 2005 and was on DVD before summer.
We are well into 2007 and though there have been biopics out there, none with the publicity and Hollywood hype as Walk the Line.
Been awhile since a biopic? Wasn’t it just last year we had “Walk the Line”?
And apart from her teeth, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Dunst. She could do a good job if the person she’s playing thinks she’s the closest character representative to her nature than anyone else out there (I know you didn’t write it, Rodney, but I had to say it).
