Hellboy 2 Plot

Now that Hellboy 2 finally has a studio, I expect things to move pretty quickly… since they’ve basically had everything else in place for a while now… they should be ready to go as soon as schedules permit.

The good folks over at AICN just had a plot synopsis of the Hellboy 2 project sent to them.  It reads something like this:

Hellboy and and Liz have moved in together, albeit at the Paranormal Lab. John Myers is no longer a part of the team, and actually they don’t even mention his name in the draft I read – everyone else is back. Instead, Hellboy is chasing down some monsters and comes right across a news crew; the secret is out and the FBI has to eat crow and go public with their secret unit. This puts a lot of pressure on Hell and Liz, who were already expriencing serious problems. When Hell doesn’t do much of a good job coming off for the public, a suave character named Johann is brought it. He’s dressed like an old detective and has a glass bubble for a head that’s filled with what looks like gas. In some weird manifestation, Johann is actually free energy, more or less, contained in a suit (I have no idea if he’s a character in the comic or not).

Anyway, keeping this brief, Johann delights Liz, who’s tired of Hell’s brash behavior (shades of the previous film), but the gang has to team up to fight a rogue Prince. He’s the son of the King of the woodland ghouls, a group of “monsters” that include gnomes, trolls, fairies, tooth fairies, and all other minor imps that roam through the forest. A long time ago there was peace between the humans and the woodland creatures, but then there was a war. To win the war the King conjured the Golden Army, a group of metallic soldiers that were invincible. Sadly, he couldn’t control them, and the Army ended up killing innocent human women and children. The King split the key that controlled the Army into three pieces and buried them across the globe. Now the Prince wants the war renewed and has captured two of the pieces of the key. The last piece is held by his sister, the Princess, and the Prince is out to capture her. Unfortunately for him, Abe has fallen in love with her…so Helboy and the crew have to protect her and stop him.

For some reason this sounds a little bit like a Shrek film to me. But oh well… at the same time it also sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I loved the characters in the first time, and I’m curious to see how they proceed. It’s also nice to see Abe getting a more important role in this one.

  1. I watched the original Hellboy last night. I forgot how short the movie was. It feels like most of the movie is Hellboy fighting the demon dog things. Hopefully this movie is a bit longer and has more character development.

I also hope they get David Hyde Pierce back to do Abe Sapien’s voice. He was excellent in the first one.

  2. You have got to be shitting me…you all actually like the sound of this. So the studio runs completely out of ideas cause the first movie sucked ass and left no open doors so now Ol’ Hell has to go fight fairy demons lurking in the woods?? This is one of the dumbest things I have heard in awhile. There is no plot, no character development, and it will more than likely spin off into another sequel in which Hellboy has to fight something else completely unheard of that just happened to stay in the dark of the world waiting for Hellboy to defeat the Fairy King and then come out to play.

That is why these movies suck so badly…

  3. Johann Kraus is actually a very important character…..i am surprised he wasnt in the first one!!!!!!

    Wikidescription—
“He is a disembodied ectoplasmic spirit with psychic abilities who maintains a tangible form via a containment suit. Without the suit, his body would eventually dissipate and he would be lost forever.”

  4. Johann is a character in the comics. He is a medium who was killed while his spirit or soul or whatever was temporarily disembodied. So he’s still alive but with no body. Hence the plastic suit filled with “gas” (his spirit).

  5. I have to say this sounds awesome. From what I can tell it isn’t a story from the comics either, so it will be interesting to see what kind of direction they take it. It is also cool that they are using a type of creature that isn’t widely thought of as scary, but those creatures were all something to be afraid of in the dark ages, we have just sanitized what they do now. Farie bestowy wishes and help you fly, no one ever thinks about the curses and the stabing you in your sleep…
