New A Scanner Darkly Trailer

Scanner Darkly Trailer PosterYou know, for the life of me I still can’t understand why everyone seems to be so pumped about the new Keanu Reeves flick A Scanner Darkly. Yes, the “animation” style looks pretty cool… but it lost it’s novelty to me by the time the trailer ended. After that, it just looks like another Keanu Reeves “What if reality isn’t really reality” kind of flick.

Aside from the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is in it, I have yet to see anything to get me excited. Even the new Scanner Darkly trailer hasn’t scored any points… and yet all over the web movie gurus (who are much wiser than I) seem to be drooling over themselves at the sight of this. I don’t get it.

Anyway, if you want to see the new A Scanner Darkly trailer you can go here.

  1. I really enjoy rotoscope. It gives the movie a dream like atmosphere that you don’t get with live action. Think about all the times you saw a live action movie with cgi and it just didn’t look right. With rotoscope everything seems a beat off. I makes the movie more creepy for me.

  2. I was looking forward to this movie, so hyped up about it…TWO YEARS AGO.

Now, with the studio keep bumping it around, by the time it does come out, I’m afraid that if I blink, I’ll miss it. Furthermore, I feel that, as Bullet pointed out, the rotoscoping might ‘look better’ for an ad. Hmmm. In the in between time of the film getting on the studio merry go round, from about two years ago to about now…there have been several commercials, one series of commercials in fact, that use this animated rotoscope technique.

    Guess what.

I’m damn sick of it already.

I said… I’M DAMN SICK OF IT ALREADY.

Novelty is great until the novelty is gone.

-D Sealer is on the loose!

  3. Looking forward to this because it’s a Philip K. Dick adaption as for the most part those stories of his that have been adapted for the screen have been done pretty well. How ever the Rotoscoping that everyone is so hyped about leaves me cold, it’s the kind of thing that would be a good gimmick for a short film or an advert, but I think any more than that and it’s irritating.

  4. Yes, it’s not that it’s another Keanu Reeves “reality isn’t really reality” movie (other than The Matrix, which other ones are there?) It’s another Philip K Dick “reality isn’t really reality” movie… which is good enough for me. I dug Linklater’s Waking Life and I’ll definitely be in line for this one.

  5. It’s a Philip K. Dick adaptation. I think pretty much everyone who’s a fan of his work gets excited whenever something else of his is adapted to the screen. Plus, it’s an animated feature using rotoscoping techniques. That gets you all the Bakshi fans and people who want to do stuff like that on their own.
