Screen Actors Guild Member Faces Piracy Charges

SAG_Logo.jpgRonald Redding, a member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) has been charged after sharing his screener copy of Million Dollar Baby. The screener copy was given to him prior to voting for the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Perhaps what he didn’t know was that each screener copy that was distributed had unique watermarks attached to them. So when illegal copies of Million Dollar Baby started popping up, all they had to do was look at the unique watermark to see who the copy came from. In like 5 minutes they knew it came from Redding.

Redding now faces up to 6 months in prison and up to $250,000 in fines and settlement. OUCH!!! But hey, like I said in yesterdays Revenge of the Sith Piracy post, this guy was given a copy in trust and he broke that trust. Also, as a member of SAG he knew very well what the consequences would be if he copied it… and he did it anyway. I’ve got no sympathy for him.

    Thank you! very much.

  2. I don’t understand why the studios and celebrities are crying “don’t steal our movies..you are taking money from our pockets” when the majority of the pirated films seem to be coming from them.
