Lucy Liu leads Rise

LucyLui.jpgI never thought anything much of Lucy Liu in the standard stuff she’s done, but there are two movies that made her stand out for me. Payback and Cypher different roles, but both equally showed her talents. In fact she positively stole Cypher, which would have been a much weaker film without her. Oh I know there were the Kill Bill’s and Charlies Angels, but they didn’t really stretch her did they?

So it’s good news that she’s been signed up for a movie from Sam Raimi‘s Ghost House pictures. Story from Cinescape through Moviehole.

Lucy Liu is rumoured to be headlining “Rise”, a new supernatural thriller from Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, says Cinescape.

The movie, which centers on a young female reporter who wakes up in a morgue to discover that she is no longer among the living and vows revenge against those responsible for putting her there – has been on the drawing board for a couple of years now.

In 2003, Sebastian Gutierrez signed on to direct the film, but it’s not mentioned whether he’s still attached.

I would like to see her get some meatier roles. Do you think she’s be worth a try in a strong major role?

  1. I think she hasn’t had a lot of chance to really prove she belongs up there. I’m not a fan of horror, but I’m looking forward to Rise. It’s nice that she and Chiklis both get a chance to really show their talents.
I was pleasantly suprised to see Lucy in Chicago and thought she was really good in it, for a small part, but I think she deserves to do more than small appearances in films. I also am still trying to get a hold of a copy of Cypher….

  2. Writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez is still attached. Lucy will really get to stretch in this role: it’s tough and vulnerable and sexy and smart.

  3. I didnt like her when she was in Ally Mcbeal, but she grew on me as I saw her in the movies more. I am not a Liu fan but it will be interesting to see her in more lead roles such as this one. I kept saying to rent Cypher and I keep forgetting. Dang!

  4. Hell yea! I love Lucy Lui, but I do agree that she hasn’t been cast in many roles that pushed her talent to new boundaries.
I for one would put my money down to see her headline a movie.

And she might have been strong in the Charlie Angel’s movies, but that second one was big time crap.
