Saw 2 gets a Director

sawposter4.jpgStill not rested from the 5am stint to get the MovieBlog back, but you know what they say “I’ll get all the sleep I need when I’m dead”…which movie? Anyway, let’s get onto some news.

You’ll remember that we’ve talked about Saw 2 quite a few times, and the news of the production has been pretty poor really, indicating that it might just be a really poor cash cow sequel. Well there’s some news out a few days ago that might mean it’s not as bad as we thought. Hollywood Reporter through MovieWeb has the news about the assigned Director:

first-time writer-director Darren Lynn Bousman will direct Saw 2, the sequel to last year’s Halloween release that grossed the studio $55 million domestically.

Bousman, a music-video and commercial director, also wrote the original screenplay for Saw 2 in conjunction with Leigh Whannel, the writer/co-star of the original Saw, and Saw director James Wan.

Honestly now, the news that one of the original writers helped write the sequel is a big boost up from the original news on the script that it was going to be a rehash of another script written before Saw. So this is really good news, and perhaps we might actually see something a bit more intelligent than we thought.

  1. Certainly one of the better movies of the time bracket. With movies like “Cabin Fever” and “House Of The Dead” floating around “Saw” was a welcomed breath of fresh air, though I have to admit it was a little too much like “Se7en” for comfort, but none the less a great horror movie. On my list of personal favorites “Saw” ranks in between 3rd and 5th favorite, the last thirty minutes of the movie could make even a hardened horror head’s pulse increase. It was great.

  2. I SAW THE 1ST SAW AND WAS A LITTLE BIT IMPATIENT WITH THE BEGINNING, YET STILL INTRIGUED BY THE FACT THAT THE WHOLE MOVIE FOCUSED AROUND THE 2 GUYS CHAINED TO A PIPE IN A RUSTY BATHROOM.
I JUST KEPT WANTING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM NEXT.
I KNEW THE DOCTOR WAS GOING TO SAW HIS LEG OFF WHEN I LEARNED OF HIS FAMILY’S INVOLVEMENT. I KNEW THAT HE WOULD EVENTUALLY FREAK OUT AND SAW HIS LEG OFF.
THE BEST THING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL WAS THAT THE MASTERMIND BEHIND THE WHOLE THING WAS LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM THE WHOLE TIME.
THE LOOK ON ADAM’S FACE WHEN THE DEAD GUY STARTED GETTING UP WAS CLASSIC.
I RATE THIS MOVIE 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I THINK THEY COULD HAVE LEFT THE ELECTRICUTING PART OUT OF IT THOUGH. THAT WAS PRETTY LAME.
BUT I LIVE FOR MOVIES THAT SURPRISE ME WITH TWISTS.
    DAMN GOOD MOVIE.
