Revenge of the Sith Toys

Star_Wars_Toys.jpgSomething of a tradition has begun over the last 2 Star Wars films. The tradition of lining up. And no, I’m not talking about lining up for the movie… I’m talking about lining up for the toys.

I remember the huge 2 day long line up in front of the stores in Saskatoon when the new Attack of the Clones toys were coming out. According to the good folks over at Monsters and Critics we can expect a lot of the same:

Wal-Mart stores across the US will be opening at 12:01 a.m. on April 1st to celebrate the launch of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith toys and games.

In addition, on April 2 & 3, approximately 400 Wal-Mart Supercenters across the country will be hosting the ultimate “48 Hours of the Force” Star Wars fan celebration event. This celebration includes interactive toy & game demonstrations from Hasbro, product sampling, Star Wars character appearances, and, while supplies last, free Star Wars force detection collectable cards. There is a different collectable card for each day.

Oh man, I still remember my first Star Wars toys. My favorite had to be the Hoth Snow Speeder or the first Millenium Falcon. Oh yes! Wonder geek powers activate!

  1. I’m going to see it first and decide. We did that with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but she was younger at that time. I’m not worried about hands and arms as much as I’m worried about crispy Anakin at the end.

  2. Just wondering Fredo, will you bring your daughter to Episode III, the buzz is it will be rated PG-13.

Anywho, I am on a lookout for a Jawa stuffed toy, any leads anybody???

  3. I dropped $120 at the local Wal-Mart with my daughter. She loves Padme. She’s 6. My son, who is 2, loves Chewbacca and Darth Vader. He does the breathing for Vader and when he sees Chewie he growls and says, “Chooooweeeee!” These toys and all the marketing are a big part of the nostalgia for me. I, too, had so much Star Wars goodies growing up. I think they are mostly buried at the bottom of our sandbox in my childhood home. Damn!

  4. Awwwwwwww….that is very sweet and generous of you. I wish I also had kids to share this passion with. HAH!

I like the baddies though, the SITH rules!!!

  5. Meli and I were just talking about this in a separate topic about Star Wars and we cant wait to get hold of the new toys. I am actually saving money to buy a lot of the merchandise and will soon put up my own Star Wars shine when I move to my new place. I’ve already asked my sister in L.A. to get some stuff for me at Wal-mart. *winks*

  6. I have an original Kenner Millennium Falcon on top of my fridge right now.

No, kids today don’t care for the Star Wars toys, because they don’t particularly care for Star Wars, to begin with. It’s really a thing tied to our generation — males, in particular, in the late 20s to 30s age range.

  7. I can never read or hear about Star Wars toys without weeping for the original toys that I GAVE AWAY. Look, I was about sixteen and feeling that I was above all that…

Anyway, the boy down the road got them, which made him very happy, so at least they went to a good home. He’s probably sit on a pretty pile now too… unless he was as stupid as me and gave them to someone else.

I had almost all the characters, a sand speeder and the Death Star (complete with trash compactor and area for Luke and Leia to swing).

Happy days. I wonder if kids today feel the same about the ROTS toys?
