“The Hobbit” Set Construction Pictures

Holy crap… I can’t even begin to tell you how pumped I am about the upcoming “The Hobbit” movies. My love for the original “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy is probably only eclipsed by my psychotic passion for the original Star Wars trilogy. As many of you know, I call “The Return of the King” the single greatest accomplishment in the history of film (when you take ALL the arts that go into making a movie like direction, acting, visual effects, cinematography, writing, set design, costuming, music etc.)

Peter Jackson isn’t returning to direct (which I still have a hard time understanding), but I still feel safe with the movie being in the hands of Guillermo del Toro.

Anyway, TheOneRing put up pictures of the first signs of life from the project. The Shire is being rebuilt! Check it out:

They have a couple of other pictures from the set construction if you want to check them out. Just head over here.

So how pumped are you for the new movies? Or are you not jumping on the band wagon just yet?

relm by jackson and del toro!!!

  2. I am excited and … nervous. While the Lord of the Rings were fabulous books, and movies, the true genius was in The Hobbit and the way Tolkien captured the magic, fun and humour of the world he invented.

Tolkien wrote this for his kids, as a rollicking, mystical and humorous adventure, and I hope they manage to capture that.

I can’t wait to see the 3 Trolls, they are my favourite scenes in the book.

  3. I’m pretty excited about it. I absolutely loved the LOTR trilogy.

However, I always feel guilty for not having read the books…so that’s always a downer in my mind.

this is going to be one of the greatest films ever made ;)

  5. Can’t wait to see this film, I am so looking forward to it. I can’t wait to see the other parts of Middle Earth like Dale, Lonely Mtns and Beorn and the elves in N. Mirkwood

    1. That’s a joke, right? You’d have to be nuts to think that that’s all LOTR is about. You could just as soon say that Transformers is two whole hours of people walking to go get the Allspark, or Terminator 2 two hours of people walking to get away from a killer machine. Is your point that when you completely strip away a film’s substance and subtext and context that there’s little depth left? Because I guess it’s well made.

    2. lol, that was a quote from clerks 2

& no i dont think theyre as simple as walking to a volcano, however i did watch all 3 of them just to see how good they were & ended up not liking them. i honestly thought that the battle scenes in the narnia movies were much better.

also, i dont understand the point of the battles in LOTR, & i didnt like how the good guys always won because of some reinforcement that came out of nowhere(walking trees or the walking dead)

& could the 2 main hobbits be any more gay?! i honestly thought they were going to kiss at the end of the third one.

    3. I got your Clerks 2 comment, and it is a pretty funny quote.

“i honestly thought that the battle scenes in the narnia movies were much better. ”

Battle scenes in Narnia better? Uh, no. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed both Narnia movies, but the battles were like the rest of the movie… clean and pretty. It’s like everybody that fought had just had a fresh bath prior to battle, and those that had some dirt on them? The dirt looked clean. The battle scenes in LOTR at least were dark, dingy, and quite gritty making it much more realistic. But to each his own on this, it all comes down to preference.

“guys always won because of some reinforcement that came out of nowhere”

Well, uh, watch the movies again? They did not come from nowhere. They specifically showed how they were enlisted to fight and what they had to go through to get there. The good guys pretty much knew they could not win without help, so they STRATEGIZED by enlisting the aid of a force that could guarantee them a win if they could get these other forces to join their side. It’s called war, and you don’t just jump into it and hope for the best. You plan ahead and make your moves with strategy like a good game of chess.

“could the 2 main hobbits be any more gay?”

Who the fuck cares if they were gay or not? What does their sexual preference have to do with the movie being good or not?

Lastly, I don’t know why I took the time to defend the movies. I enjoyed them and all, but I usually don’t come out of the wood works to defend them. Look what you did to me!

  6. Is this the same shire set they used in the Lord of the Rings? From what I’ve heard, they’ve turned that place into a tourist attraction.

Oh, and god I’m looking forwards to this. Del Toro should be an interesting touch to the movie.

    1. I use to hope for McAvoy, but now I’m really pulling for Martin Freeman. I think he would be the best choice. he seems a little more Bilbo to me than McAvoy.

I now declare that I am a part of TEAM MARTIN FREEMAN

  7. i think the hobbit is going to be the greateest film ever made…I dont think ive ever been so excited for a movie. Del Toro and Jackson working together is beyond awesome in my opinion. I think Del Toro is going to do a great job.
