In 1982, some Turkish film makers decided that no copyright was safe from the grasp of their Space Epic. It has become the stuff that legends are made of.
Turkish Star Wars is the nickname for a movie called Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam (The Man Who Saves The World), which was released in Turkey in 1982, and used bootleg footage ripped directly from Star Wars.
…
And now, some 24 years later, they are about to release a sequel! Dunyayi Kurtaran Adamin Oglu (The Son of the Man Who Saves The World) doesn’t re-use any Star Wars footage (as far as I know), but it looks just as ridiculous as the original sounds.
I had heard about this movie, and it blatantly rips off Star Wars and even uses soundtrack bits from Indiana Jones.
Its apparently cheezey as all hell, but its the ONLY thing I have heard of to come out of Turkey in cinema. No offense to the Turkish people, but I know very little if anything at all about Turkey, except that someone there made this film in the early 80s.
The sequel features scenes that show some more of their disregard for intellectual properties including a “Lightsaber fight”. No word yet as to wether or not there will be any Star Wars footage or soundtrack listings.
You can view the trailer for the sequel Here
This sounds really lame and lousy at the same time!!! Yuck!!!!! :-(
Yes, Mr. Rodney, i know.
I just know that John is a freak for all things Star Wars and after all, this is his site. So, i figured i would just poke a lil’ fun his way and hope he read it.
BTW, on a side note, Rodney, you are doing a great Job on TMB. I enjoy yer posts. (Almost as much as John’s… who doesn’t try to publicly HUMILIATE me… *sniff* *sniff*…)
j/k ;-)
Hey guys, as i am a Turkish, i can probably say, this is not a serious movie. Like first film in 1982, this ones purpose is mocking people and famous films. And this one has only original scenes. So don’t take it seriously, just enjoy the movie.
Maybe someone in Turkey has turned into the Mel Brooks of today?
Turkish Star Wars is great, and Jim is right in saying it’s far more entertaining than Episode 1. Turkey has produced some fantastic genre knock-offs, including 3 Dev Adam aka Turkish Spider-Man, Turkish Supreman, Kilink, and tons more. Many of these are currently available on DVD, or will be in the near future.
Personally, I think this looks fantastic for Ed Wood night. I would LOVE to hear a commentary on this (or the original). It would be hysterical.
looks more like an episode of power rangers then a movie.
Careful Rodney- you don’t want to mock Turkish film. You might offend Islam and set off worldwide riots or something.
If this film ever comes to DVD in the US, I’ll be the first to rent it.
Oh… My… God…
Cheesy no longer has any meaning compared to this…
The old man karaticizing his foes, The handlebar moustache… the light… sabers… the aviator shades… Ack!! My brain hurts.
Jim?
Im not John.
Just sayin.
Hey John… This movie would probably have been a MUCH better sequel to the original SW that Episode 1 was !!! lol.
;-)
Sounds awesome, in a Turkey kind of way.
Im not bashing Turkish film. I said its the only thing I heard of out of Turkey.
This film blatantly copied segments of Star Wars and used it as plot. Not re-enacted.. they took ACTUAL FOOTAGE. The Death Star is in the 1982 film (well Death EGG because they screwwed up the transfer from the animorphic print) And I saw some clips of a training montage, and if it doesnt deserve some mocking then I don’t know what does.
I call it like I see it. This film is cheesier than ANYTHING I have ever seen here, and I have seen the Vanilla Ice movie.
You shouldn’t bash turkish cinema just because you’re ignorant. If that’s the ONLY thing you ever heard of, maybe you should drop by Twitchfilm once in a while. The sci-fi parody G.O.R.A., for example, was a pretty fun movie; better than some of the crap Hollywod is producing recently. And the special effects were really good.
I see great parody material there. Any chance they get it dubbed in English so we can jump in the fun.
Apart from the light sabers, I didn’t see much Star Wars, but there’s some Star Trek in there, that’s for sure!
