The Exorcism of Emily Rose Trailer

ExorcismEmilyRose.jpg.jpegI was concerned when we first reported on The Exorcism of Emily Rose that the dramatic events and the shocking story were going to be left behind in a courtroom drama, and that the story of Emily Rose would be lost.

Okay so trailers can be cut quite a number of ways, but this trailer through dtheatre, shows a very different tale.

The lawyer is still investigating, and there looks to be courtroom scenes, but there is either a lot of backstory or flashbacks in the Priests storytelling. That’s one good thing covered. The other is that it does appear to be pretty damn creepy with some good images and potentially scary moments. For me the freakiest moment is the tape playing and the words saying that it is a real recording, that’s just what scares me I guess, like the White Noise trailer where the actual audio recording plays of someones voice who is long dead. Freaky.

So it’s looking pretty good, but the feeling you get at the end is that this trailer is very much giving the strong impression that the movie is from the religious aspect, in that there is a demonic possession. However entertaining that may be, how will that be for the family and those that were really affected by the incident? We can return to the old line that it’s just a movie though, or we may find that it balances out the viewpoint during the actual movie. It’s something I thing we’ll have to wait and see.

On pure movie value though, this trailer looks good, and a lot better than I thought the original direction of the movie was going to go. What do you think?

  1. Many have stopped believing in God…. I believe this movie (and Anneliese’s sacrafice) was created so that we can understand that evil exist. The movie did not scare me, it opened my eyes. I will pray and worship Jesus our Savior, and honor his Blessed Mother.

  2. Just wanted to say that the Exorcism of Emily is a waste of time and money. A frustrating “horror movie” with a bunched of twisted plots and failed logic, and a cheap capitalizing upon the REAL person (Anneelise Michel) this movie pretends to portray.

Would much have preferred to see the REAL thing: a film depicting the life and death of Anneelise Michel at the hands of some deluded Catholic priests who apparently “fed” the concept of possession into the troubled mind of the Anneelise girl.

A tragedy for her, and a big disappointment for us… Word of advice to anyone about to spend $$$ to see this sensationalized tripe-film:

    Don’t bother!

PS The “work out your salvation with fear and trembling” engraved on the tombstone is just another Hollywood touch that confuses the audience, has nothing to do with the REAL Anneelise story, and has NOTHING to do with REAL SALVATION, either, for that matter.

  3. i think the movie is a good learning experiance especally when she said im am the one who dwells within and when she sais i am nero, belail, cain, judas, legion and lucifer and when she is speaking that god languge this a good movie every bodie who is on this sight watch this movie.

  4. just wanna say i have actually seen this film. the trailers are the best thing about the film, the rest is courtroom nonesense. there is probablt about 10 miniute of emily in the film. it is a real dissapointment. i urge anyone dont bother with this film. go and watch saw 11 instead

  5. Well, well…

The movie is great. I just saw it and it’s really scary because it’s not gory or stuff like that. It’s scary because it’s well done. The actress is fantastic, and the effects aren’t exaggerated (but very well done).

    That is for the movie.

    About the ‘real story’ thing…

I want to start with stigmata. I don’t believe in God (I don’t know what do I believe… I’m trying to find out), but well, watching the movie made me remember stigmata. The marks of Christ are supposed to be psychosomatic (or somethibg like that, I speak spanish, and it is ‘psicosom√ɬ°tico’), that is, they’re created by the mind, when it reaches a state of mind called ’embeleso’ (in spanish…). When you see Christ’s hands, you see a strange interpretation, since romans did not drill the hands (they can’t support the weight of the body), but the wrists. Stigmata appear on hands, so, they appear as an image of the images (…) we have of Christ.

Unfortunately, I’m not very sure about the exoscism. There are cases of provoked poltergeist (the mind is powerful). But one thing is moving things, and another is speaking in greek, latin and god knows what else; the dual voice thing; being burned by the crucifix and holy water and other things. There is some kind of explanation for every of them, but that doesn’t convince me.

In ‘The exoscist’ (at least the first one) it was Pazuzu. In this one we have Cain, Nero, Judas, Belial, Legion and Lucifer. In the old testament you can find many others like Beelphegor and Baphomet. There’s not juust one master evil-doer that commands them all. There are many references to hundres of demons, fallen angels and unholy things (just as there are saints, angels, archangelsm seraphs…). I’m not saying that there’s a warr between good and evil. There’s no God and Devil. People in many cultures and religions get attacked by demons (or whatever they call it). Peolple in many cultures and religions are healed by their gods (or whatever they worship). Call it faith, supestition, or weird paranoic-psycho-schizofrenic-thing; there are things things we don’t understand that affect us (either with positive or negative effects).

About faking the possesion, well, I don’t think that can be done. There are things your concious mind can’t do. Anyway, if you could, I think bad things would happen. Not anyone can perform an exorcism. Only people that have a huge faith and that are well prepared can do that. As I have already said, the mind is powerful, and that’s why Church is so careful with exorcisms. It is not a toy, and if something goes wrong, well, you can die (or something worse).

On a side note, a friend of mine told her parents she didn’t believe in God. Her parents asked a priest to talk with her. But she says that she felt like saying stuff like “I’m with Satan, so what?”. She’s not like that, I know her well, she was pushed to say those things (maybe she was just very angry). The priest was so scared that he tried to defend using holy water, but she only laughed and faked pleasure. I know it has nothing to do with all these things, but, could she really be with Satan (or whatver you wanna call him)?

Maybe I’m just crazy. You don’t have to believe me. These are things that came to my mind when I saw the movie. It is good, and it makes you think. Just that.

  6. To Crusader above (or anyone else)…I have some questions for you that maybe you could answer for me. What is the Infestatio? I have Googled it and cant really find anything on it. And what is the Doctrinal Induction? Are these things only reserved for priests of the Catholic faith or can the general public review these things? And what gives the authority for their use? Is it of God or man? I notice a lot through “The true story of Annelies Michel” posts that the Catholic church rejected her possesion at first until certain criteria from the above mentioned articles had been met. Then as soon as she became violent and crazy, the church finally recognized her possesion. So who makes the criteria and what is it based upon…is it from the bible or from a man? And what is the point of a Genuflections and how exactly is that supposed to make you live a more religous life. Someone asked why the devil would posses a Godly person…the only answer I can think of is…why would he want to posses someone already a non-believer? Isn’t it more of a victory to turn a person away from God than to just take someone who already doesnt believe? It is then up to your faith in God to overcome. Maybe God used this as a message to others. Sad, yes, but it rings true. Read the story of Job in the bible to see what I mean. He lost absolutely everything and lost faith but in the end regained his faith and had everything restored. Off subject I know…just trying to say something!!!

I have not seen the movie because I dont like things like this…it opens doors that I do not want opened…so I am somewhat confused as to some of the things you have posted. I can see as a Catholic priest how this movie of all movies could appeal to you…but what is the message. You mention the Passion of Christ too as being a wake up for Hollywood in the sense that this genre of film does have an audience. The movie was good and I do believe the death of Jesus is important…but there were things portrayed in that film that are not in the bible…and as much hype as the movie got…Where was the message of Salvation? That, to me is the absolutely most important thing in films like these.

Sure bad things happen…and for some reason people think it is because God has left them…when in fact it is you who strayed from God and he is simply waiting in the exact spot you left Him for you to come back to him. Some one above mentioned that the greatest trick the devil has played was to convince the world that he does not exist…I believe this whole heartedly. But not everyone will agree with me…until the world ends or you die, you will never know…I put my faith in God and believe there is a heaven and hell and that when I die I will go to heaven. Not everyone will agree, just as I dont agree that there is no God…but there will be a time when the truth will come out…either when you die and your spirit goes to be judged, or you die and just cease to exist (for those of you who dont believe in anything at all), or you are reincarnated as a cow or fly or something.

And one last question…what would happen if someone faked all the signs of a demonic possesion and then when the the church approves it and commits an exorcism…what would happen to a perfectly normal person if an exorcism was performed on them?? I know it is a dumb question…but I want to know…and no I am not thinking about doing it…I am just interested!!!!!!!

  7. this film was very good, i enjoyed it.Very jumpy though. Not as good as the exsorism, the very 1st one.Exsorism the begging was not very good, it was boring. This is definatly a film i wouldn’t mind seeing again or getting on film.BRING ON THE NEXT ONE.

  8. the movie scared me sooo bad i could barley watch the excersism!!!!!

i cried when she was in the barn and there were 6 demons in her she screamed”1-2-3-4-5-6″

  9. im goin to see the movie tonight…hopefully all this talk about the movie being good is true..usually i hear good remarks about movies and when i go see them…they are not great at all….

so i guess ill just find out

  10. FILM REVIEW

    The Exorcism of Emily Rose

by Fr. Brian W. Harrison, O.S.

Some of you may have seen over the last year or so that I have sounded the alarm in several Catholic magazines about a couple of viciously anti-Catholic movies disguised as “history”: “King Arthur” (2004) and “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005).

I have just been to see another new movie about the Church, with the full expectation of being provoked into circulating yet another “thumbs-down” warning about it.

Well … Halleluiah! Would you believe that that particular expectation of mine has just been smashed √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù astonishingly, wonderfully! √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù into smithereens? Can anything morally or spiritually good come out of Hollywood √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù especially in this day and age, more than half a century after the “good old” days when some movie moguls were (putatively at least) “on our side”?

To my utter amazement, I now have to admit that the answer is ‘Yes”! Divine grace √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù actual, if perhaps not yet necessarily sanctifying √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù may be having its effect even in Tinseltown!

Ever since the big box-office success of the original version of “The Exorcist” more than thirty years ago, exorcism-flicks have become a sort of sub-division of the horror movie genre. Most of them have been pretty trashy, depending mainly on sensational special effects and frequently embodying malicious and embarrassingly ignorant caricatures of Catholic beliefs, rites and practices.

Not this time. “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” gets it right. Scarily, yes, but at the same time beautifully, powerfully √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù inspiringly. This one is the real thing, folks. (I speak as a priest who has had direct experience with real-life exorcisms: in Rome, with Fr. Gabriel Amorth, the Pope’s leading exorcist and author of several books on the subject.)

Like “The Exorcist”, “Emily Rose” has its basis in a true case-history, but is far superior to the former movie in just about every respect. It’s about a 19-year-old Canadian girl from a conservative/traditional Catholic family, who becomes possessed and eventually dies in that state after an unsuccessful exorcism. The family’s parish priest who attempted the exorcism, Fr. Richard Moore, is then charged with criminal negligence leading to her death. This is because, having being totally entrusted with Emily’s welfare by her devout family after psychiatric treatment and medication had proven fruitless, the priest decided to suspend all natural treatments in order to rely on the spiritual power of Christ and His sacred priesthood.

That forensic context alone makes fascinating watching for those who √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù like most of you reading this √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù are very conscious of the exclusion of Christ’s social kingship from modern societies dominated by the “wall of separation” between Church and State. The superbly acted and directed court scenes in “Emily Rose” present a kind of microcosm of this radical internal conflict at the heart of post-Enlightenment Western culture. They effectively portray the legal dilemma that now arises when an officially agnostic political/judicial system is forced to come to grips with evidence that radically calls in question the secularist orthodoxy which dogmatizes that all possible events must √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù at least in the public, civil forum √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù be explained in terms of natural, scientific laws. This dilemma is highlighted in the gripping, brilliantly-written, dialogue confrontations between Fr. Moore’s defense counsel (Laura Linney) and the prosecutor bent on persuading the jury that the priest’s “archaic superstitions” were responsible for the girl’s death. And the drama is ingeniously heightened by the paradox that while this publicly secularist prosecutor boasts that he is privately a “man of faith” (have we heard something a little like that before?), Fr. Moore’s attorney has to openly admit that she’s personally an agnostic. (The screenplay throughout this movie is excellent.)

That old “with-‘religious’-friends-like-these-who-needs-enemies?” scenario will certainly resonate with the so-often-frustrated experience of so many of us traditionally-inclined Catholics in recent decades. A further touch of the same post-conciliar realism comes to light quickly when we learn that the accused Fr. Moore, an honest-to-goodness, orthodox Catholic priest, finds the rug being pulled out from under him by √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù you guessed it! √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù the modernist, politicking archdiocesan chancery officials who don’t really believe in all that stuff about the devil and possession, and are just plain embarrassed by the whole business! (Yes, folks, this decidedly non-liberal script is actually coming from an ‘establishment’ Hollywood movie! Mel Gibson had nothing to do with it.)

As a matter of fact, Fr. Moore (played by Tom Wilkinson) comes across as more than just an honest-to-goodness, orthodox priest (wearing his clerical suit and collar whenever he’s out of his prison uniform). He’s an exemplary, prayerful priest. A holy priest. A old-style priest who knows how to talk back sternly in Latin when the demon croaks at him mockingly in the Church’s language. He is quietly dignified in his humiliation in prison and in court. This priest manifests true Catholic pastoral charity and zeal for souls, and a Christ-like willingness to sacrifice his own temporal reputation and freedom for the sake of telling the truth about Emily. Moreover, Wilkinson’s portrayal of this character is totally credible, with his acting rising to a superb level in the last court-room scene where he gives his final testimony about Emily. For my money, Wilkinson’s Father Moore √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù here in the dark Third Millennium, no less! √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù is a thousand times better than Bing Crosby’s superficial “cool”, crooning priest characters from the supposed golden days of the ‘forties and ‘fifties. In short, this was a film that left me feeling proud to be wearing my Roman collar as I exited the theater!

Even though the Catholic-influenced Legion of Decency which vetted movies back then has long since disappeared, “Emily Rose” has no foul or blasphemous language (even though it’s about demonic possession), no sex, and no nudity. So the most deeply traditional Catholic parents can see, and allow their kids to see, this film, provided only that the latter are old enough not to be traumatized by the scary scenes. Indeed, such families will empathize with the Rose family, whose devout, orthodox Catholic convictions are treated with sympathy and respect throughout the film.

Maybe you are thinking by now that in spite of all these merits, “Emily Rose” still sounds overall like a pretty depressing movie: after all, we’re talking about a FAILED exorcism which ends in the hideous death of the possessed girl. If that’s what you’re thinking, then never fear! You should know that there is a simply wonderful, profoundly moving, surprise ending to the film which puts that whole scenario in a totally unexpected, supernatural light. I assure you you’ll leave the theater after seeing “Emily Rose” with your faith strengthened, your spirit elevated √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù and probably with tears welling in your eyes. All the more so because we are assured at the end that this story is basically history, not fiction. (The real-life events on which the film is based actually took place in Germany in the mid-1970s.)

One final comment. I said above that Mel Gibson had nothing to do with this movie. On second thought, maybe he did √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù unwittingly. Could it be that the box-office success of “The Passion” last year is finally getting the message through to some Hollywood studios that there is a huge potential market out there for films which respect, rather than ridicule, traditional religion? If so, we traditional religionists should confirm this message for them by going to see “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”. I urge you not to miss it √¢‚Ǩ‚Äù and take your older children along too. As far as I’m concerned, it is a masterpiece: one of the finest and most moving films I’ve ever seen in my life, and indeed, a worthy companion to “The Passion of the Christ”.

  11. this movie was GREAT!!! it was the first really chilling movie i’ve been to in a very long time. blah blah blah GOD. blah blah DEVIL. beside the point. fantastic movie that shows there is no earthly way of PROVING fact. life is but a dream. or is it. possesion makes for interesting story. the beauty of the movie is, unlike some people on this strand of bullshit, they don’t force a certain belief on their viewers. the story is told from the courtroom where each side is esplored, and we can choose to believe which side we want. did she just need medical care, or was she possessed by the devil and friends.

blah blah religgion waste of time to talk about because you wont get anywhere because theres no physical way to prove someone else wrong about their beliefs in a higher being. get over yourselves and just listen and learn.

  12. i saw this movie and it was freakin scary. I too agree with christine, demons are everywhere. the bible says in the last days there will be wars, and natural disasters, and yes, much worse things are coming.

  13. demons are everywhere whether you believe in them or not and theyre not all just some crazy looking creatures….theyre also the ones whispering in our ears that its okay to steal just one more pack of gum b/c our God will forgive us…theyre the ones luring us into the pleasures of this world…”the greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing people he doesnt exist”

think about your life right now and think of everything going on this world…the war, the hurricane….the bible says much worse things will be coming… dont fear the devil but fear God…He is greater and more powerful than anything, anyone. if i’d die right now, i wouldnt be scared because i know that i am saved…i know God is with me always and He’s the only one who will never turn his back on me or any of you..be ready…dont get caught up in this world…there is a spiritual warfare going on…to some people, these things may seem crazy but theyre real…yes, anneliese michel was possessed but do you know how many other people all over the world have been possessed and are getting possessed right now? dont be limited…look deeper and think about life…do you really think we just die and thats it? is that all weve been living for?

  14. I am too looking for information about the book. I know the title and author but it is very hard to find in a paperback. I am very interested in hearing more about this. I went and saw the premire of the movie in my hometown and OMG it was freakin amazing. My mother is a catholic and she actually read on Annaliese when SHE was in school, during her senior year and told me alot of what the movie portrays is factual and there is ALOT of stuff being left out so I am hoping to find more information. Has anyone read the book and can anyone tell me if I should buy it?

  15. The moovie is great! But if you are a believer of evil and have not much faith in God , this moovie might afect you in a very concious and spiritual way. I suggest this moovie to people that have strong faith in God and believes that good over evil always wins. If not you shouldnt see it cause otherwise youll end up like my sister who has been sleeping with me since she saw it and she is 21 !!!

    Good luck !!!

  16. I saw the moovie with my younger sister and a couple of friends. It is scary and lives you with goosebomps!!! My sister has slept with me since she saw it and she is 21 years old!!! I dont blame her, the moovie is really good and very believeble. We are catholics. And we believe in exorcisms and we know Lucifer and demons do exist. So it made it worse to read that this moovie was indeed based on a true story. It got me afraid at first but then I said to my self ¨I have nothing to be afraid of, for if God is with me, who is against me?¨

People, do not be afraid just because the devil and demons exist. For God exists to and He is more powerfull than all together. I know God exists and he has not forgotten us. He loves us still very much and He is still making miracles every day!!!

I am a miracle of His hands. And if interested, this is my story…

I have survived from Intensive Care Unit when I was about 12 yers old. I was living through machines and lots of medication. The 7 Doctors said there wasnt anything else to do and we should all prepare our selves for my death to come. Instead we started doing something we forgot to do in the first place, PRAY! I was to be dead in days. My father got on his knees beside me holding my hand he prayed outloud,

I couldnt speak but I prayed in my mind with him. And I past away the very same night. Two minutes after they resurected me. When I woke up I didnt know what had happend for I died while sleeping. So I thought that I had a very vivid and beautifull dream…

I dreamed (in first person)that my soul got out of my body and when to a place so extremly bright I could not see myself.

And the most soft and calming voice said, ¨Do not be afraid, for you are safe here my child.¨ ¨Do you know who I am?¨ I just knew it was God¨I cried and answerd Him with my mind, ÿou are Jesus Crist¨

He knew why I was crying. He read my feelings and said… Its time to go… I thought He ment with Him, but He answered my depest wish, to go home healthy again.I told my parents this dream and they cried so much made me cry too. They didnt say it might off had happend for real. They didnt say I died for a couple of minutes. For two days I was on close observation and fortunately I didnt get worser. At the Third day, all the machines that where conected to my almost dead body got crazy, they were all beping so hard… The doctors and nurses came to the room to resurect me again. When they saw me I had my eyes wide open, my face fool of color and smiling I said √Ǭ®could you turn things off please?√Ǭ® The machines were biping because God wanted everybody to know that a miracle had happend. No one had hope for me to get better. I was suppose to die, end of story. And when everyone came inside the room and checked the machines saying I was 100% healthy in everyway, and saw me alive and well, and smiling… one of the nurses said,

√Ǭ®ITS A MIRACLE√Ǭ®… They just stood there speechless, watching me alive and well.

GOD exists people. He is with us. And if you ever experience with something not good, call Him. And if things get worser just keep on calling Him, if you cant speak do it from your mind, from your heart, from your soul but never surrender, never give up. Allow your faith to take over and youll see He is there, He is with you, what ever you do, where ever you are , He loves you. All you have to do is believe in Him. Cause He believes in you. He died believing it was worth it. Dont disapoint Him by not believing in Him.

My family, my friends and me believed. And here I am writting the story of a miracle God made on me. Dont be scared to anything.

Because if God is with you, who is against you?

    GBU, Alexa

  17. Okay, here’s my view (not that anyone really cares):

The fact that “this really happened guys, it’s not made up” doesn’t mean she was posessed. On the other hand, it doesn’t mean she WASN’T posessed either. Yeah, the event happened. True. We all know that. But we still don’t know WHY, so stop using that as an excuse that she was really posessed. She could have been psychologically unstable. No one will ever really know. I’m not against the idea of her being posessed, she very well could have been. I’m just pointing something out. And another thing, I’m so sick of people bashing other people’s beliefs. If you don’t want to believe anything, good for you. Keep that to yourself. If you DO believe something, don’t try to force your views on someone. Let people believe what they want. And for the record, I thought it was an awesome movie and the acting was amazing.

  18. I saw the movie and I thought it was really interesting and scary. Made me wonder why she was “chosen” by the devil (if she really was) even though she was really religious and that it could happen to anybody.

I don’t think it as anything to do with religion but more about your own personnal faith in Him. From what i’ve read, hers was pretty profound.

I’ve heard about a french women (can’t remember her name…) who spent 20 or so years in bed, paralyzed. She said that every friday, she would get the visit of the devil. He would beat her up, torture her, throw her on the wall and stuff whilst she was completely incapable of defending herself. The next day, she would usually have stigmates on her hands and feet. All awhile, she refused to have anybody with her during those terrible night because she was too scared for those who would attend it. She said that the devil would come to visit her to test her faith just like Jesus was tested in the desert. She said that he would tell her to join him and when she would say no, he would beat her really bad. Some mornings, she was found with bruised eyes, broken teeth, sometime broken arms or legs. Also, during those 20 years, the only thing she was capable of swallowing was holy bread. Unfortunatly, she has past on since but, during all those years, she found ways of gathering enough money to built houses for the poor in France.

It makes me wonder if, at a point in a spiritual life, when we elevate our souls in such a profound way, our faith also gets tested like these two were.

Well, as for me, I’m sleeping with the lights on tonight…..

  19. This movie looks really good. It’s just a shame to learn what happened to the real Emily Rose (Anneliese Michel). I think that it’s bogus how the exorcist and her parents went to jail for manslaughter when they did all that they could to help.

  20. This movie looks really good. It’s just a shame to learn what happened to the real Emily Rose (Anneeliese Michel). I think that it’s bogus how the exorcist and her parents went to jail for manslaughter when they did all that they could to help.

  21. This movie has to mean something to you for you to considerate it good. I would say that you have to be Christian or even Catholic to understand the context and the references through out the movie.

  22. I feel compeeled to answer the last post…wasn’t Christ just one person?

Well the answer is very simple but most are blinded to it for obvious reasons…I am believing of late that there are what exists what I call port-holes or vortices in the time-space continuum of classical physics as we know it – in layman’s terms, these are places where time stands still, and you can be in 2 places at the same time; remote viewing, astral journeying, clairvoyance, all that paranormal/normal stuff; the Bible in its’ many forms even mentions these things…supposedly all devilish stuff…or angelic?

(The devils were supposedly angels cast down from heaven in battles or something I forget; I wonder how far down they got ?!).

So yes, I would wager to believe that if GOD in his (or her!) infinite wisdom chose one man to save the world, then doesnt the Bible say that there will be one who will come to destroy it (?); gads if it’s gonna be a woman we are in for trouble(no offense!) ! (no less as the movie prescribes, and she chose to come back here; whew…not that I am glad she didn’t make it an all I feel bad for the whole thing of course, but what if she had survived? And no one knew of her posession? And she had a baby…you know…the anti-christ?

Biblically speaking, things are happening out there folks; an I aint preachin’…JMHO.

    Mr Gray

  23. It is based on a true story – I have researched quite abit on it muhaha – in fact, if anyone is interested, check out my website at:

    http://home.earthlink.net/~mrzeta/itcmain.html

and you will find something interesting – more to follow so stay tuned!

BTW it doesnt mean the person was really possesed or anything; more of a story of immorality and basic needs of survival if you ask me; like those religious people out west USA who don’t believe in medicine an such; at least here they could have fed the poor girl intravenously and sedated her…doesn’t mean I dont believe she wasn’t possesed either…

    Mr Gray

  24. our real topic here is, DO YOU BELIEVE ALL THIS CRAP FOR REAL???

Well… THE DEVIL WILL WASTE HIS PATHETIC TIME AGAINST A SINGLE GIRL?

IS BETTER SOMEBODY HERE CHANGE HIS PLANS TO DESTROY HUMANITY…

WAKE-UP PEOPLE, HELL EXIST ONLY IN THE CHURCH INQUISITION

THE HELL IS HERE, WHERE CHILDREN DYE EVERYDAY BY STARVATION OR BORN WITH CANCER. GOT THAT?

LETS SEE THIS MOVIE TO MAKE THOSE DIRECTORS MORE RICH, RIGHT?

  25. well i have seen the movie and people need to think about one thing and that is that it is a true story let’s not for get that and it was good to me it make you look at life diffent

  26. ooooops!! sorry.. i didnt see that someone already posted it..

  27. i found this on an msn group where a person copied and pasted it from another site.. it appears to be the story behind it though… hope it helps.

    The Story Behind The Movie

From her birth on the 21st of September, 1952, Anneliese Michel enjoyed the life of a normal, religiously nurtured young girl. Without warning, her life changed on a day in 1968 when she began shaking and found she was unable to control her body. She could not call out for her parents, Josef and Anna, or any of her 3 sisters. A neurologist at the Psychiatric Clinic Wurzburg diagnosed her with “Grand Mal” epilepsy. Because of the strength of the epileptic fits, and the severity of the depression that followed, Anneliese was admitted for treatment at the hospital.

Soon after the attacks began, Anneliese started seeing devilish grimaces during her daily praying. It was the fall of 1970, and while the young people of the world were enjoying the liberal freedoms of the time, Anneliese was battling with the belief that she was possessed. It seemed there was no other explanation for the appearance of devilish visions during her prayers. Voices also began following her, saying Anneliese will “stew in hell”. She mentioned the “demons” to the doctors only once, explaining that they have started to give her orders. The doctors seem unable to help, and Anneliese lost hope that medicine was going to be able to cure her.

In the summer of 1973, her parents visited different pastors to request an exorcism. Their requests were rejected and they were given recommendations that the now 20 year old Anneliese should continue with medication and treatment. It was explained that the process by which the Church proves a possession (Infestatio) is strictly defined, and until all the criterium is met, a Bishop can not approve an exorcism. The requirements, to name a few, include an aversion to religious objects, speaking in a language the person has never learned, and supernatural powers.

In 1974, after supervising Anneliese for some time, Pastor Ernst Alt requested a permit to perform the exorcism from the Bishop of Wurzburg. The request was rejected, and a recommendation soon followed saying that Anneliese should live even more of a religious lifestyle in order to find peace. The attacks did not diminish, and her behavior become more irratic. At her parents house in Klingenberg, she insulted, beat, and began biting the other members of her family. She refused to eat because the demons would not allow it. Anneliese slept on the stone floor, ate spiders, flies, and coal, and even began drinking her own urine. She could be heard screaming throughout the house for hours while breaking crucifixes, destroying paintings of Jesus, and pulling apart rosaries. Anneliese began committing acts of self-mutilation at this time, and the act of tearing off her clothes and urinating on the floor became commonplace.

After making an exact verification of the possession in September 1975, the Bishop of Wurzburg, Josef Stangl, assigned Father Arnold Renz and Pastor Ernst Alt with the order to perform “The Great Exorcism” on Anneliese Michel. The basis for this ritual was the “Rituale Romanum”, which was still, at the time, a valid Cannon Law from the 17th century. It was determined that Anneliese must be saved from the possession by several demons, including Lucifer, Judas Iscariot, Nero, Cain, Hitler, and Fleischmann, a disgraced Frankish Priest from the 16th century, and some other damned souls which had manifested through her. From September ’75 until July ’76, one or two exorcism sessions were held each week. Anneliese’s attacks were sometimes so strong that she would have to be held down by 3 men, or even chained up. During this time, Anneliese found her life somewhat return to normal as she could again go to school, take final examinations at the Pedagogic Academy in Wurzburg, and go to church.

The attacks, however, did not stop. In fact, she would more often find herself paralyzed and falling unconscious than before. The exorcism continued over many months, always with the same prayers and incantations. Sometimes family members and visitors, like one married couple that claims to have “discovered” Anneliese, would be present during the rituals. For several weeks, Anneliese denied all food. Her knees ruptured due to the 600 genuflections she performed obsessively during the daily exorcism. Over 40 audio tapes record the process, in order to preserve the details.

The last day of the Exorcism Rite was on June 30th, 1976, and Anneliese was suffering at this point from Pneumonia. She was also totally emaciated, and running a high fever. Exhausted and unable to physically perform the genuflections herself, her parents stood in and helped carry her through the motions. “Beg for Absolution” is the last statement Anneliese made to the exorcists. To her mother, she said, “Mother, I’m afraid.” Anna Michel recorded the death of her daughter on the following day, July 1st, 1976, and at noon, Pastor Ernst Alt informed the authorities in Aschaffenburg. The senior prosecutor began investigating immediately.

A short time before these final events unfolded, William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist” (1974) came to the cinemas in Germany, bringing with it a wave of paranormal hysteria that flooded the nation. Psychiatrists all over Europe reported an increase of obsessive ideas among their patients. Prosecutors took more than 2 years to to take Annaliese’s case to court, using that time to sort through the bizarre facts. Anneliese’s parents and the two exorcists were accused of negligent homocide. The “Klingenberg Case” would be decided upon two questions: What caused the death of Anneliese Michel, and who was responsible?

According the forensic evidence, “Anneliese starved to death”. Specialists claimed that if the accused would have begun with forced feeding one week before her death, Anneliese’s life would have been saved. One sister told the court that Anneliese did not want to go to a mental home where she would be sedated and forced to eat. The exorcists tried to prove the presence of the demons, playing taped recordings of strange dialogues like that of two demons arguing about which one of them would have to leave Anneliese’s body first. One of the demons called himself Hitler, and spoke with a Frankish accent (Hitler was born in Austria). Not one of those present during the exorcism ever had a doubt about the authenticity of the presence of these demons.

The psychiatrists, whom had been ordered to testify by the court, spoke about the “Doctrinaire Induction”. They said that the priests had provided Anneliese with the contents of her psychotic behavior. Consequentially, they claimed, she later accepted her behavior as a form of demonic possession. They also offered that Anneliese’s unsettled sexual development, along with her diagnosed Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, had influenced the psychosis.

The verdict was considered by many as not as harsh as they expected. Anneliese’s parents, as well as the exorcists, were found guilty of manslaughter resulting from negligence and omitting first aid. They were sentenced to 6 months in jail and probation. The verdict included the opinion of the court that the accused should have helped by taking care of the medical treatment that the girl needed, but instead, their use of naive practices aggrivated Anneliese’s already poor constitution.

A commission of the German Bishop-Conference later declared that Anneliese Michel was not possessed, however, this did not keep believers from supporting her struggles, and it was because so many believed in her that Anneliese’s body did not find peace with death. Her corpse was exhumed eleven and a half years after her burial, only to confirm that it had decayed as would have been expected under normal circumstances. Today, her grave remains a place of pilgrimage for rosary-praying and for those who believe that Anneliese Michel bravely fought the devil.

In 1999, Cardinal Medina Estevez presented journalists in Vatican-City the new version of the “Rituale Romanum” that has been used by the Catholic Church since 1614. The updates came after more than 10 years of editing and is called “De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam” otherwise known as “The exorcism for the upcoming millennium”. The Pope approbated the new Exorcism Rite, which is now allowed for worldwide use. This new form of exorcism came after the German Bishop-Conference demanded to ultimately abolish the “Rituale Romun”. It also came more than 20 years after Anneliese Michel had died.

  28. For those of you, that think Hollywood would actually tell you the truth in a movie…. you are a waste of time…..

and for those of you that take the time and research the story…. you are on the right path to higher learning…. remember you are paying any where b/w 10-15$ to see this movie….

  29. OMG I THINK THIS MOVIE IZ GOING TOTALLY SCARY !!!!!!!!!!!!! IM TOTALLY SCARED LOL HAHAHAHAHAHA NA I THINK DIS MOVIE IZ GONNA B IIGHT SRRY 4 ALL THE ACTIN WHITE IZ CUZ I WAZ BORED IIGHT

  30. well now that the movies out i think we all know the trailer is misleading. which is really disapointing to me but oh well. i still want to see it because it looks intresting.

yeah i have a hard time believing the “based on a true story anymore”

but apparently if you ad that tag line to a film EVERYONE believes it geeze. look at the Texas Chainsaw Massacare. they put “inspired by a true story” and everyone thought it was completely real cus they added bogus police footage. the guy who came up with the original texas chainsaw thought of it in a supermarket cus he was christmas shopping and wished he had a chainsaw to cut through the lines. i dont know about the characters those are probabbly based off of real people. but still. the point is that tag line is almost always bogus and i’m beggining to distrust trailers emensly

  31. Most movies that imply ‘based on a true story’ is just that. It is the base of the story. The rest is generally written by screen writers to make a story not only interesting, but make it seem that it is possible. Sometimes ‘based on a true story’ means that it is just based on a person. Have you ever heard of Ed Gein? We all know who he is if you think about it. There were 3 major movies that were based on Ed Gein himself. Not necessarily of what he really did, just as the ‘icon’ that he was. In ‘Silence of the Lambs’, they used Ed Geins past to create the character ‘Wild Bill’. In ‘Psycho’, his past of being close to his mother was used to creat ‘Norman Bates’ character. And probably one of the most popular and closest tho Ed Geins real past is ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. All of these movies were based on a person, not necessarily his story. This is probably what will be similar the the Emily Rose story. Just writers adding things where it needs to so that the viewing public will watch it over and over.

  32. So, all of you, belive in hell?

With satan in a pool of fire and a big loads of lava in his big friyng pan? With a lot of hittlers paying his crimes into fire? With suffering and Doom3 things?

God never will let his creation burn in hell after big or little sins.

Wherever how big or little the sin is, you pay.but not in HELL….

believe-me, jesus has told to the people ”those who not rebirth, never shall see the heavens”

Yeah thats right. Do bad deeds in this life, and you will get more bad deeds to suffer in another life. Thats the way to learn and get higher.

You see, one of them call himself ”hittler”. Typical characteristic of ”The obsessive one”. It is a spirit that believe be a demon,(thanks to the church and greec mytology) and the human/spirit mind become so powerfull, and this false belief, make him destroy things or open doors…

Hard to believe?Hard do understand? My english is bad too? Email me, [email protected], im brazilian and i come from a religion called THE KARDECISM from Allan Kardec secrets doutrine and with the hand of jesus, the master.

God bless you and the poor girl who was caught by an evil spirit infected by our sick world, when he was a man.

she is now ok, believe me.

  33. Thanks for those comments Kristen. I have done alot of research and he has been to many many doctors and hospitals who all seem to come to the same conclusion. I have noticed a huge difference in him when he is on him medications and gets the right amount of sleep etc.

I did catch the part of her having Grand seziures and my son has had those too! Its a very scary thing to go through! Both of my sons have had them. My oldest tempature used to raise for no reason and has been up to 106 before and he went into seziures. Anyway, I always wonder and especially since experience weird stuff first hand about the possiblilites of physcotic disorders and how many times they have been diagnosed as Demonic possessions.

  34. OMG!!!! I watched the preview when i went to go see FOURBROTHERS and

that thing scared the shit out of me!!! I give a shout out to

Anneliesa Michel even though she isn’t here anymore and it’s really sad and depressing, but this is going to be a GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

I read the book on Anneliesa and it’s so sad. one of us can just turn out like her any time of our lives! I think that’s why we should honor GOD not to sound so religious and stuff! To me this is a movie lots of religious people wouldn’t watch because it’s crazy to them! To me I got to watch it no matter what anyone says!!!!!!!!! Thank GOD for whom thought or brought it up to make a movie out of Anneliesa Michel!!!!!!

  35. To the girl that said she is having a baby and feels it might be possesed, and to all others that are “scared” of the devil, first thing you have to do, is read the following.

If the bible says, in romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

and then read this, from a great book, Romans vs by vs by William R. Newell.

And after reading this, see why, Emily Rose, maybe if she was told the following, maybe then she would realize what the problem was all along!!

Remember, if you look for acceptance from God in yourself, you will always lose with Lucifer.

Romans verse-by-verse by william r. newell. pg 134 footnote.

“We beg the reader’s permission to relate below an esperience of our own, as illustrating “To him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that declares righteous the ungodly.”:

Years ago in the cidy of St. Louis, I was holding noon meetings in the Century Theater. One day I spoke on this verse, –Romans 4:5 “But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness”,

After the audience had gone, I was addressed by a fine-looking man of middle age, who had been waiting alone in a box-seat for me.

He immediately said, “I am Captain G—-,” (a man very widely known in the city). And, when I sat down to talk with him, he began: “you are speaking to the most ungodly man in St. Louis.” I said, “Thank God!” “What!” he cried, “Do you mean you are glad that i am bad?” “No”, I said; “but I am certainly glad to find a sinner that knows he is a sinner.” “oh, you don’t know the half! I have been absolutely ungodly for years and years and years, right here in St. Louis. I own two Mississippi steamers. Everybody knows me. I am just the most ungodly man in town!” I could hardly get him quiet enough to ask him: “Did you hear me preach on ‘ungodly people’ today?” “Mr. Newell,” he said, “I have been coming to these noon meetings for six weeks. I do not think I have missed a meeting. But i cannot tell you a word of what you said today. I did not sleep last night. I have hardly had any sleep for 3 weeks. I have gone to one man after another to find out what to do. And i do what they say. I have read the Bible. I have prayed. I have given money away. But i am the most ungodly wretch in this town. Now what do you tell me to do? I waited here today to ask you that. I have tried everything; but i am so ungodly!”

“now”, I said, “we will turn to the verse i preached on.” i gave him the bible into his hands, asking him to read aloud: “to him that worketh not.” “but”, he cried, “how can this be for me? I am the most ungodly man in st. louis!” “wait,” i said, “i beg you go on reading.” so he read, “to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly.” “there!” he fairly shouted, “that’s what i am, — ungodly.” “then this verse is about you,” I assured him.

“but please tell me what to do, Mr. Newell. I know I am ungodly:what shall i do?”

    “read teh verse again, please”

he read, “to him that worketh not,”–and i stopped him.

“there,”, i said, “the verse says not to do, and you want me to tell you something to do: i cannot do that.”

“but there must be something to do; if not, i shall be lost forever.”

“now listen with all your soul,” i said, “there was something to do, but IT HAS BEEN DONE!”

Then I told him how God had so loved him, all ungodly as he was, that He sent Christ to die for the ungodly. And that God’s judgment had fallen on Christ, who has been forsaken of God for his, Captain G—-‘s, sins there on the cross.

Then I said, “God raised up Christ; and sent us preachers to beseech men, all ungodly as they are, to believe on this God who declares righteous the ungodly, on the ground of Christ’s shed blood.”

He suddenly leaped to his feet and stretched his hand out to me. “mr Newell,” he said, “I will accept that proposition!” and off he went, without another word.

Next noonday, at the opening of the meeting, i saw him beckoning to me from the wings of the stage. I went to him.

“may i say a word to these people?” he asked.

I saw his shining face, and gladly brought him in.

I said to the great audience, “friends, this is captain G—-, whom most, if not all of you know. He wants to say a word to you.”

“I want to tell you all of the greatest proposition i ever found,” he cried: “i am a business man, and know a good proposition. But I found one yesterday that so filled me with joy, that i could not sleep a wink all night. I found out that God for Jesus Christ’s sake declares righteous any ungodly man that trust Him. I trusted Him yesterday; and you all know what an ungodly man I was. I thank you all for listening to me; but i felt i could not help but tell you of this wonderful proposition; that God should count me righteous. I have been such a great sinner.”

This beloved man lived many years in St. Louis, an ornament of his confession.

  36. That’s really scary, Valicia. That does not sound like Bi-Polar disorder, but I also don’t believe in demonic posession. Your son may have a far more serious condition developing. I don’t know how old he is, but DID (multiple personalities) would be an extreme possibility. You have my deepest sympathy, and I feel terrible for you and your son. As far as Anneliesa goes, I read through the account that was posted, and it sounds like she had some serious neurological/psychological trauma. Did all of you miss the fact that she was having “Grand Mal” seizures? That she was diagnosed as having temporal lobe epilepsy? Her brain, and her mind, were clearly in bad shape. Does her psychosis really surprise any of you? Don’t be so quick to cry “demon.”

  37. The girls name was Anneliesa Michel. You can read about her on the internet and her story. There are still arguments about being possessed. I have a son who is Bi-Polor and if he were to get really angry and cross over to the bi-polor side (I call it) I would think it would look the same as someone being possesed. He has told me that he was the devil before and in a very weird voice and face, said he wanted to rip my head off and watch me die. This was all while driving downt he highway. He even grabbed the steering wheel and tried to make me wreck! Not sure exactly what I beleieve but I know I don’t want to play with fire and give the devil any ammunition, he’s got enough as it is.

  38. I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the girl that was really possessed… obviously her real name isnt Emily Rose..? Anyone know who the movie is really about???

  39. i think that anyone who dont believe in this are realy dumn because anything can happen.. not that God is evil but God permits this t0o happen s0o we can believe in him…believe their is a hell a heaven

and think their is ONe God Jesus christ and one Devil..( lucifar)

  40. I just hope nothing like this ever happens to me… I wonder if dreams count as being possessed? I’ve had really demonic dreams for the past three nights that have to do with a baby… like I’m pregnant and trying to get away from these devil worshiping people who are after my baby because he’s special… suppose to be born on

June 6th, 2006.(06-06-06) They think he’s Satan reborn… it was the scariest dream I’ve had in a while, but in a way, I think that it would be a cool plot for a scary movie.

Feel free to e-mail me with thoughts.

    [email protected]

  41. I think this is going to be a cool movie… I’ve always been interested in the paranormal… UFO’s & Aliens, Big Foot, Ghost…

Possessions just adds to the list of questions I have, like “how” and “who” and “what the fuck”?

  42. dis movie looks so hot n so scary im even scared to see da whole trailer but i cant wait to see it n i think its real so all ya people who think its fake fall bak

  43. Gordon states:”The only problem I have with the Devil arguement is that the Devil ( the antithisis of God ) was created by the Church and did not exist at the time of the Christ. Although the devil is part of the New Testament it was included in the books of the Bible long after the time of the Christ.”

I just have to say I really don’t know how you came up with that conclusion. The devil wasn’t created by the church. He’s mentioned OFTEN in the bible. The devil DID exist at the time of Christ..he tempted him in the mountains..he influenced Judas. He existed in heaven WITH Jesus before he was cast out. The devil is mentioned not only in the NT but also many times in the Old Testament (think adam and eve). He is not the antithisis of GOD but more the antithisis of the angels since he himself was an angel…cast out. God created him..he is not near as powerful as GOD.

About the movie, I will not see it ‘don’t play with fire if you dont get burned’. The devil needs only to whisper in your ear to influence your thoughts. Even if you dont believe in such things, the trailers looks typical of the genre of ‘scary movies’ going around….jerky movements…missing eyes…stringy hair and things coming out of you mouths.

  44. Look, im sorry, but i honestly do not think this is real. It’s not factual real, it’s catholic real which are 2 very different things. You see, catholics have a problem with blowing things out of proportion. Anneliese (may she rest in peace) was probably afraid of “the devil” because of the religious teachings of the catholic church, which drove her into the state of mind that she was in.

“But that doesnt explain her speaking the different languages!!”

Yes, it does. In certain states of mind, it is quite possible to do superhuman things, because of intense belief, hence the psychosis.

So please, do not take this story to be absolute truth, but merely as an over-exaggerated story.

I do think that it will make a good movie, but I’m sorry, I can’t believe the story to be truth.

  45. I think the movies looks very scary but many of the other scary movies look like that as well. However, Exorcisms are real. The devil is real and so are demons. It’s up each individual to believe or not. There is someone more powerful than that though and that would be Jesus and he says “If you believe in me you shall live” and I personally believe that’s true. Movies like these are just for you to see that things like this happen all over the world and that they can happen to anybody at any time. I hope the movie is not a disappointment because I’m really looking foward to seeing it. Oh by the way thanks to who ever place the information about Emily on.

  46. this movie look good and if it really a true story they should post more of the story like interview her sisters parents friend anybody that was there

  47. I think this is something that Hollywood should not mess with. The devil and demons are very real and should not be fooled around with, even if it’s “just for fun”. I am a christian and I know that JESUS IS ALIVE and HE wins in the end! I think this movie has been released at a crutial point in history. Satan’s time is running out and he is hard at work to take as many with him as he can. Don’t be fooled by him. Trust Jesus to be your Savior and Satan can’t touch you!

  48. This looks like a really good movie. Saw the preview for the first time today when I went to see The Cave, which is a pretty good movie by the way, and I’d have to say that I’m hooked on it. I wanna know if this really happened because it does say “based on a true story”. If anyone is able to give me that information, send it to [email protected] please and thank you. If it is true, what a poor girl. So long ago but I now feel so terrible for her.

  49. Apparently Daniela’s inner child can’t spell “their” properly.

I’m not going to see this movie, the effects look cheesy and the formula is tired.

I also think taking such liberties as changing the characters name entirely then writing ‘based on a true story’ in the subtitle is bad form. Just watch, they’ll turn the characters in Americans and little 13-year-old Wiccas will swear any demons mentioned are really their magical goddess fairy familiars.

  50. Thank you for posting the “Emily Rose story”. I’m really interested in all things supernatural. I really wanted to know the story behind the movie. I too believe it is based on a true story. I think its really strange how people long to live in a world filled with strange happening and magic and ant seem to believe we actually do. We live in a world that does contain ghost and demon and witches. We have magic in this world and feel people need to open thier eyes and see through thier inner child. THATS JUST MY OPINION. DONT BE MAD.

I too think this movie probally looks better in preview and wont be as great as expected. But I think it’ll be interesting enough.

  51. Yes indeed another exorcism movie. The question of exorcism goes to the core of Christian religious belief. Is the devil or are demons real? I suggest being an agnostic, there may be two answers to this question. The possiblity that the human psyche can creat a multitude of personalities due to each individuals psychological state. Or that they do actually exist. The only problem I have with the Devil arguement is that the Devil ( the antithisis of God ) was created by the Church and did not exist at the time of the Christ. Although the devil is part of the New Testament it was included in the books of the Bible long after the time of the Christ. So whether there is a devil or exorcism, or whether it is the human psyche is open more research.

  52. I have seen alot of negative things about this movie. But what people don’t understand is demon possession takes alot longer time than in the movie The Exorcist, demonic possession is a hush hush thing and is never ever discussed in the Catholic religion and in any other religions. But it does happen and can happen to anyone at anytime whether you are religious or not. Usually the people who down it are the people who doesn’t understand it.

  53. Here is the real story, I got it off the website and thought i would copy it so everyone could read it that would like.

  54. I’m a Catholic female, just wanted to know, is this movie Catholic critics approved? It sounds really interesting because it’s based upon reality, which I know. But, you know, Hollywood can make even the nicest stories into something horrifying only to grab peoples attention and to fall far from life (Heaven)but an inch away from death (Hell).

Please let me know about it. Thank you.

  55. I CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE BECAUSE THEY MENTIONED THAT IT IS HORROR AND THE OTHER ONE WASNT SCARY BUT ILL BET THIS ONE IS AND THEY MENTIONED ALSO WAS IT WAS BASED ON A TRUE STORY

  56. I BELIEVE IN EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING I ALSO HEAR AND SEE MANY THINGS ITS ALL TRUE NO LIES AT ALL TRUST ME I’VE BEEN THROUGH IT ALL AND IF ANYONE HAS ANY DOUBT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT

    [email protected]

  57. “I wanna know how her name became emily rose?”

Im guessing thats just the name they used for the movie, just a random name.

“and how did she get posses?”

Unexplainable… considering we cant just say “Hey demons, how do you do it?”

“and why the demons choose 2 posses her?”

    See answer #2

  58. These movies are all just the world’s way of coping with something that they believe to be imaginary. A way of accepting something that they don’t want to admit is reality. Some of you believe, others do not. Let me tell you, these things are very real. People need to stop playing with fire. They are going to get burned. Satan is real, demons are real. But don’t worry, Jesus is real too, and even more powerful. No, I am not agreeing with Catholicism, or any other religion for that matter. I said JESUS is real. Not a religion. Call on his name, and you will be saved.

  59. As an Astrologer I found this to be very intriguing to say the least! The only thing I need now is the time of birth and I will be able to draw a chart from it!!! If anyone out there has this information …it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

  60. There is a book on this. My mother had it when I was much younger. I found it disturbing then and it has ocassionally come to mind in my following years. I could not believe when I just saw the advertisement for it on t.v. today. I ran straight to the ‘internet highway’ to see if I could locate the book again, (no luck yet).

There were pictures in the book and everything. It is based on a true story. I’m going to have to reach my mom and see if she still has the book, (doubt it though as it’s been about 26 years). I believe the book was titled “The Story of Emily Rose”.

  61. Both the Exorcist and the Exorcism or Emily Rose are based on true stories, documented

in depth by third-party observers like policemen, clergy, neighbours and medical staff.

This movie differs from the Exorcist insofar as creative liberties are involved: Emily Rose

contains more context of the legal and medical events surrounding her case.

One thing ties the two stories together: People observed both cases and pledge undeniable diabolic activity.

That’s enough to pique most serious moviegoers.

It’s enough to pique the interest oif most who question the reality of life after death, demons and hell and their presence here on Earth.

  62. Enough with the exorcism movies. Of the movie producers I ask: How many are necessary? Of the viewers I ask: How many times do you have to see an exorcism movie? Its the same story over and over. Are you never satisfied?

There is only one to see: The Exorcist. No prequels, nor part II’s III’s X’s. No Emily’s no Anneliesse’s. Let them rest in peace.

Has the movie industry finally exhausted all ideas? Next week I expect a remake of The Exorcist, its pitiful.

Expect to be LET DOWN! Think about it. When is the last time you were really really scared at the movies. Hmm quite some time right?

  63. I THINK THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE GREAT! AND FOR EVERYONE WHO IS SAYIN ITS NOT REAL… WELL IT IS THE WHOLE THING REALLY HAPPEND BEFORE! I LIKE TO WATCH MOVIES LIKE THAT AND I ALSO LIKE TO PLAY WIT DEMON IF YOU KNOE WHAT I MEAN!!!

  64. The story behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose…

It all began about 1968, when Anneliese (a very religious nurtured girl, who was born on the 21st of September 1952) has an insult. Paralysed and shaking she can√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t call her 3 sisters, or her parents (Josef and Anna) for help. A Neurologist at the Psychiatric Clinic W√ɬºrzburg diagnosed Epilepsy Type “Grand Mal”. Depressions, often occurring after those Epilepsy Attacks, have not been recognized.

After a long stay at the Hospital, she begins to see devilish grimaces during her daily praying. In the fall of 1970 Anneliese returned to school, and while other girls live the freedom of the 70s, she starts believing to be possessed. She can√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t find another reason for the grimaces. Now also voices are following her, saying that Anneliese will “stew in hell”. The Depressions get stronger and stronger and Anneliese doesn√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t see any reason for the meetings at the Doctors, because they don√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t bring a relief. Just once, does she tell a Doctor about the “Demons”, which even give orders to her now. But the gap between known Medicine and Catholic Ideology is too big, to get her problems considered.

In the summer of 1973 her parents ask different Pastors for an Exorcism. The Catholic Chaplains reject and recommend, to continue the medication on the now 20 year old Anneliese. The proof for a possession (Infestatio) is strictly structured, and before not all criterions are fulfilled, the Bishop can’t approve an Exorcism. Aversions against religious objects, speaking in languages the person never learned and supernatural powers, are just some of them.

Pastor Ernst Alt, supervising Anneliese at that time, asked the Bishop of Würzburg for the Permit to perform an Exorcism on Anneliese Michel in 1974. His request was also rejected, so he recommends Anneliese an even more religious Lifestyle. But the attacks don’t disappear. At her parents house in Klingenberg, she insults, beats, bites the family members. She doesn’t eat, because the demons don’t allow her to. Anneliese sleeps at the stone floor, eats Spiders, Flies and Coal. She even drinks her own Urine. For hours, she yells thru the house. Anneliese breaks Crucifixes, destroys paintings of Jesus and demolishes Rosaries. Running thru the house, tearing the clothes from her body and urinating on the floor is nothing unusual anymore. She even commits self-mutilation.

In September 1975, after an exact Verification, the Bishop of W√ɬºrzburg, Josef Stangl, assigns Father Arnold Renz and Pastor Ernst Alt with the order, to perform “The Great Exorcism” on Anneliese Michel. The basis for this ritual is the “Rituale Romanum”, a still valid Canon Law from the 17th century. Pastor Alt and Father Renz try to save Anneliese from, in the meantime over 6 individuals (Lucifer, Judas Iscariot, Nero, Cain, Hitler and Fleischmann, a disgraced Frankish Priest from the 16th century, and some other “Damned”), which manifested thru her. From September √¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢75 till July √¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢76, 1 to 2 sessions a week were held. Sometimes her attacks were so strong, that she had to be hold down by 3 men, or they had to chain her up. Between those sessions in her parent√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s house, Anneliese has some time without any attacks, in which she goes to school, makes her final examinations at the Pedagogic Academy in W√ɬºrzburg and goes to church. Just like she used to live before.

But the attacks didn√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t stop. The young woman gets unconscious and paralyzed more often. The Exorcism continues over weeks and months. Always praying the same specified prayers and incantations, over and over again. Sometimes the parents are present, or her sisters. Even a married couple, that claims of having “discovered” Anneliese. Over several weeks, she denies every food. Her knees are burst, because of the 600 Genuflections she does obsessive during the Exorcisms. During the Exorcism there were over 40 audio tapes recorded, to log the possession.

The last day of the Exorcism Rite is the 30th of June 1976. Anneliese is now also suffering from a Pneumonia, totally emaciated and having high temperature. But she can√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t waive doing the Genuflections. Her parents even help her doing them. “Beg for Absolution.”, is the last sentence Anneliese says to the Exorcists. To her mother she says: “Mother, I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m afraid.”. Anna Michel recorded the death of her daughter on the next day, the 1st of July 1976. At Noon, Pastor Ernst Alt informs the prosecuting authorities in Aschaffenburg. The Senior Prosecutor began investigating.

Short time before these events, William Friedkin√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s “The Exorcist” came to the cinemas in Germany (1974), and started a paranormal Hysteria all over the land. Psychiatrist all over Europe, reported of an increase of obsessive ideas at their patients. For the Prosecutors, the factual situation is more than bizarre. And it took almost 2 years, until the “Klingenberg Case” was brought to court. Anneliese√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s parents and the 2 Exorcists were accused of negligent homicide. There were only 2 questions to answer. What caused the death of Anneliese Michel, and who was responsible ?

The cause of death, as diagnosed by the Forensics: “Anneliese starved to death” ! If the Accused would have begun with forced feed, one week before her dead, Anneliese√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s live could have been saved. Her sister told in front of the court, that Anneliese didn√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t want to go to a Mental House, sedated and forced to eat. The Exorcists tried to prove the presence of the demons, by playing the tapes they recorded. There were such strange dialogues, like 2 of the demons arguing , who of them has to leave Anneliese√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s body first. The demon, that called himself Hitler, talked with Frankish Accent (Hitler was born Austrian). None of those present during the Exorcisms, never had a doubt, that this weren√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t demons.

The Psychiatrists, which have been ordered by the court, talked about “Doctrinaire Induction”. Saying, that the Priests have offered Anneliese the contents of her psychotic behaviour. Consequentially she later accepted the behaviour of a, from a demon possessed person. Also an unsettled sexual development, along with the diagnosed Temporal Lobe Epilepsy influenced Anneliese√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Psychosis.

The judgement was, although the parents and the chaplains were adjudged guilty, not as hard as expected. All of the accused were sentenced to 6 months jail on probation, because of manslaughter resulting from negligence and omitted First Aid. The accused should have helped by taking care of the medical treatment the girl needed. But instead of doing so they aggravated the bad constitution, by using naïve Practices.

A Commission of the German Bishop-Conference later declared, that Anneliese Michel was not possessed. Anneliese’s body didn’t even find peace after the girl’s death. Because of some believe in miracles, it was said that her body doesn’t decay, her corpse gets exhumed 11/2 year after the burial. With the final result, that the body decays, as every other dead body. Till now her grave is a place of pilgrimage, for Rosary-praying pilgrims, who still think, that Anneliese Michel has defeated the Devil.

In 1999 Cardinal Medina Est√ɬ©vez presented Journalists, in Vatican-City, the new Version of the “Rituale Romanum” that was used by the Catholic Church since 1614. He presented them “De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam” better know as “The Exorcism for the upcoming Millennium”. After more then 10 years of editing, the Pope approbated the new Exorcism Rite, which is now allowed for worldwide usage. The change was initiated by the death of Anneliese Michel. The German Bishop-Conference demanded to ultimately abolish the “Rituale Romanum”. The Vatican answered in his own way, with a new form of Exorcism. More then 20 years after Anneliese Michel died.

  65. Last night was the first time that I saw the trailer for Emily Rose. I was sitting in the dark in my room watching T.V and it came on. You talking about caught me off gaurd. It freaked me out totally. It looks like its going to be a pretty good movie. Although this movie hasn’t been heavily advertised.

  66. I can’t predict whether the movie will be good or not, but I’ll bet they’re taking the same approach to the story as a brilliant 2001 horror/mystery story, Frailty.

In the case of Frailty, the story is much the same… the events have ‘already happened’ in movie-time and are being retold to a detective through a series of flashbacks. The vast majority of the movie is in past time, so you don’t really feel like you’re watching a bunch of flashbacks. If they do the same thing with Emily Rose and the screenwriting is good, it looks like it might be a really powerful film.

  67. someone please tell me whether this movie’s based on a true story. i can’t find a single scrap of evidence that it is. i know i’m taking it too seriously, but, when they say “based on a true story,” i’d like to read up on the true story before seeing the movie. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!
