Lee Daniels Receives the Visionary Award at the 2025 Heaven Gala
The Art of Elysium will honor Lee Daniels with the Visionary Award at its 2025 Heaven Gala. The event takes place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Rosewood Miramar in Montecito. This year the gala adopts a new seasonal theme that invites guests to explore a personal idea of heaven.
What Is the Heaven Gala?
Each year the gala features a one‑night art installation. A chosen Visionary designs the experience around four artistic disciplines: fashion and design, music and movement, theatre and film, and visual arts. For 2025 Lee Daniels imagines heaven as a tapestry of peace, inner‑child reconnection, and creative rebirth.
First, guests will walk a red carpet and view artistic vignettes. Next, a black tie cocktail hour offers nostalgic hors d’oeuvres. Then a formal dinner serves each guest a place setting that includes a childhood photograph and a personal reflection.
Daniels’ Vision of Heaven
Lee Daniels describes his concept of heaven as “the feeling of being held by my mother.” He says that stillness and love represent the purest form of heaven. Consequently, the evening will guide guests from formal elegance into the playful innocence of childhood.
After dinner a distinguished guest will read Daniels’ vision, written by Jacqueline Woodson. Then the Visionary Award will be presented, and a sculpture by David Grieco will be unveiled.
Pajama Party and Nighttime Magic
Following the award, a child opera singer and an adult vocalist will lead guests to change into pajamas. At 9:30 p.m. the lobby transforms into a pajama party zone where Aly & AJ perform in pajamas. After the performance, immersive activations invite guests to explore a childlike wonderland.
Late‑night activities include puppetry, games, dessert stations, skate demos, DJ sets, acoustic performances, and a surprise musical finale. The night ends with milk and cookies, a simple reminder of childhood comfort.
