Simon Pegg’s recent comments have sparked new hope for the long-awaited STAR TREK 4. The actor revealed that the newly appointed Paramount chairman, David Ellison, is a big STAR TREK fan and would be thrilled to bring back the Kelvin Timeline crew.
What Pegg is Saying About Star Trek 4
Pegg, who played Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in the 2009 reboot and its two sequels, spoke at the STLV STAR TREK convention in Las Vegas, where he shared his thoughts on the possibility of STAR TREK 4.
“David Ellison is a big STAR TREK fan. He cares about the series,” Pegg said. “I love those guys. And despite how we had a tragedy in our group [Anton Yelchin’s death], which was extremely painful, it would be wonderful to come together again.”
With J.J. Abrams still committed to the project, Pegg believes it’s time for STAR TREK 4 to happen. He suggested that the Kelvin Timeline crew, which includes Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Zoe Saldaña as Nyota Uhura, could return ten years after the five-year mission.
But despite the renewed hope, Pegg acknowledged that STAR TREK 4 has faced numerous starts and stops since 2009. Even in 2023, Chris Pine admitted he still hadn’t seen a script.
That may be changing, as Supernatural writer Steve Yockey was tapped to write a new script for STAR TREK 4 in 2024. Meanwhile, a separate STAR TREK film from Andor director Toby Haynes is in the works, described as an “origin story” set decades before the events of the reboots.

The STAR TREK universe continues to thrive on the small screen, with STAR TREK: Strange New Worlds Season 3 now out and STAR TREK: Starfleet Academy set to launch in early 2026.
If Ellison’s fandom translates into greenlighting STAR TREK 4, Pegg and the rest of the crew might finally get the reunion they’ve been waiting for.
