Paramount+ Begins Production on Legal Thriller Discretion

Paramount+ has officially announced that production is underway on Discretion, an upcoming eight-episode legal thriller. The series features a high-profile cast led by Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, and Josh Lucas. Based on a short story by New York Times bestselling author Chandler Baker, the project is produced by A24 and is currently slated for a global launch on the streaming platform in 2027.

The narrative follows Lenny, a summer associate at a prestigious Dallas law firm who begins to uncover a complex web of non-disclosure agreements that mask a dark truth. When she realizes that she has signed one of these agreements herself, she finds her career and safety threatened by the firm’s most powerful female partner, Sharon, played by Kidman. This discovery completely upends their mentor-protégé dynamic and forces the characters to confront the high cost of keeping secrets.

The production of Discretion is a significant addition to the Paramount+ original content slate. By bringing together a powerhouse cast and the creative team behind acclaimed projects, the streamer is clearly positioning this legal thriller as a major tentpole for its 2027 lineup. The involvement of A24, known for its distinct and high-quality storytelling, further suggests that this series will aim for a sophisticated, character-driven approach to the legal genre.

Expanding the Ensemble Cast

In addition to the lead trio, the production has confirmed that Stephan James and Colton Ryan have joined the series as regulars. James is set to portray Logan, a sharp corporate associate who takes on a mentorship role for Lenny. Ryan will play Boone, Lenny’s ex-boyfriend. Boone is described as a recovering addict from an affluent Dallas family who is currently living in a halfway house while attempting to rebuild his life.

Behind the Scenes

The creative team behind the camera is equally notable. Chandler Baker is writing the series and serving as an executive producer. She is joined by executive producer Susannah Grant, who is well-known for her work on projects like Erin Brockovich and Unbelievable. Matt Shakman, an Emmy nominee, is executive producing and directing the first four episodes of the series. Kidman and Fanning are also heavily involved in the production side, executive producing through their respective banners, Blossom Films and Lewellen Pictures.

The series is expected to explore themes of power, corporate ethics, and the personal cost of professional ambition. With filming now underway, fans of legal dramas can look forward to more updates as the project moves through production toward its 2027 debut.
