Beau DeMayo Addresses Marvel Exit and Ongoing Legal Dispute

A Public Response to Termination

Former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo is addressing the controversy surrounding his exit from Marvel Studios. Following his termination in March 2024, just weeks before the series premiere, DeMayo has spoken candidly about the circumstances of his departure, his ongoing legal dispute with the company, and his personal life.

When the studio initially announced the firing, they cited an internal investigation and egregious misconduct. DeMayo has consistently denied these allegations, labeling them as false. In September 2024, he filed a lawsuit against Marvel, seeking relief from a non-disparagement agreement he claims he was pressured to sign. The legal case is currently scheduled to proceed to trial in July 2027.

Workplace Environment and OnlyFans

During his interview with Vanity Fair, DeMayo reflected on his time at the studio. He alleged that his identity as a queer Black man led to negative perceptions from some colleagues, claiming he was sometimes treated as a diversity hire rather than a showrunner.

DeMayo also addressed his OnlyFans account, which has drawn significant attention since his departure. He stated that the studio was aware of the account during his employment and that it was permitted as long as it remained separate from his professional work on the series. He explained that his increased comfort with posting explicit content is a personal journey toward overcoming past shame regarding his body and appearance.

The Future of X-Men ’97

Despite the public fallout and his termination, DeMayo retains creator, executive producer, and writer credits for the second season of the animated series. The situation remains a point of tension, particularly after DeMayo shared social media posts during Pride Month that the studio reportedly claimed violated his exit agreement.

As the series continues on Disney+, the legal proceedings between DeMayo and the studio are expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
