The The Strokes have officially unveiled the music video for their latest track, Going Shopping, featuring a surprise appearance by actor Walton Goggins. The video, directed by longtime band collaborator Johann Rashid, serves as a creative homage to the iconic visual for Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me Al.
According to the band, Goggins was their dream choice for the role famously held by Chevy Chase in the original Simon video. Despite being on location for a feature film in the Canary Islands at the time of the request, Goggins reportedly jumped at the opportunity, telling the band, let’s go shopping. The production team traveled to Tenerife in late May to film the project with the actor.
A New Era for The Strokes
The release of the video arrives as anticipation builds for the band’s seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, which is scheduled for release on July 24 via RCA Records. The track Going Shopping was originally released in April and follows the band’s recent promotional efforts, including a performance of their song Falling out of Love on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Seeing a talent like Goggins step into a music video role is a fun crossover for fans of his television and film work. It highlights the band’s continued ability to blend their musical output with high-profile visual storytelling as they prepare for a massive global headline tour.
Tour and Release Details
Following their momentum from Coachella, the band is embarking on an extensive international tour that includes stops at major venues like New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park and London’s The O2. Fans can watch the official music video for Going Shopping on the band’s official YouTube channel. More information regarding the upcoming album can be found on the official RCA Records site.
