Mason Thames Joins Donnie Yen’s John Wick Spinoff ‘Caine’

Caine has added a fresh face to its lineup. Mason Thames is now part of the Lionsgate‑backed John Wick spinoff, which will be directed by and star martial‑arts legend Donnie Yen. Production has officially begun. The film’s roster already includes Yen, pop‑star‑turned‑actress Rina Sawayama reprising her role as Akira, and Dacre Montgomery, whose involvement was announced earlier. Thames’ specific role remains under wraps, but his addition signals the project’s appeal to younger audiences.

Caine picks up after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, following the titular character as he is finally released from his High Table obligations. While plot specifics are still secret, Yen’s dual role as director and star promises a blend of kinetic fight choreography and emotional depth, hallmarks of his previous work.

Production Team

The movie is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, alongside Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment. Keanu Reeves joins as a producer, with Yen also serving as an executive producer. The screenplay is penned by Mattson Tomlin, known for his recent work on The Batman: Part II and the comic adaptation BRZRKR.

What’s Next

Fans can look forward to seeing Thames’ performance after his recent work on the live‑action How to Train Your Dragon 2 and upcoming projects like Nimrods and Idiots. With a strong creative team and a growing cast, expectations for the John Wick universe’s next chapter are high.
