Trailer: The Grey

The new trailer for The Grey starring Liam Neeson is making the rounds and today I finally got a good look at his latest picture. I’m a big Neeson fan and usually at least take a look at the trailers of all of his projects even if they aren’t initially piquing my interest.

This movie looks really interesting but it’s not exactly compelling me to run to a theater to watch how that fight plays out. Neeson is definitely a big draw when in the right setting but I’m not sure that this wilderness survival movie is going to convince me to watch this in theaters. I’d love to be proven wrong! The idea of survival in the wilderness and is one that most people fear as far as being preyed upon by wild animals willing to attack them. “It’s just a dog” some may think, but the sheer terror that overwhelms a person when they have that moment where their only thought is “I’m going to die, this animal is going to kill me” is translatable enough to make an engaging and entertaining film, especially when these thoughts are being conveyed by Liam Neeson. Again, I’m not yet convinced I want to see this story played out in theaters, but I am eager for this one to hit DVD and cable.

  1. This movie better not portray the Grey Wolf as a ruthless maneater similar in scope to the Jaws movies did with Great White Sharks. From the trailer and advertisements I’ve seen, it seems that this movie aims to portray wolves as brutal man-eaters, but this is simply not true. Grey Wolves do not prey on humans; they would rather avoid us as much as possible. The movie is fiction no doubt, but the message can resonate with the public and it couldn’t come at a worse time, especially in states like Minnesota where wolves have recently been taken off the endangered species act. Hopefully people will have the common sense not to take the movie for the message it will send and not obliterate every wolf they see. Wolves in other states are at the cusp of extinction, and movies like this send a clear and distinctly wrong message despite being a fictional story. Hollywood should have learned their lesson with the Jaws franchise. Tell the true story of Grey Wolves.
