Favreau says Iron Man 2 happens before Incredible Hulk

With Iron Man 2 around the corner and Captain America and Thor shaping up the road to the Avengers we just assume that the events in these related films will all take place as they were released. But clearly The First Avenger will take place before, and Thor will likely cover before that and after… so how do the current chapters fit in relation to one another?

Fav’s himself spills on his Twitter as a fan asks this question:

Just watched “The Incredible Hulk” Gotta ask you:Does “Iron Man 2” takes place before or after Hulk movie?

To which he sussinctly replies Before

So the scene where Stark approaches General Ross at the end of The Incredible Hulk will actually take place after Iron Man 2, which kind of changes my perspective on the scene.

While originally the stinger at the end of Iron Man with Sam Jackson as Fury approaching Stark about a “special team” we just assume that when Stark is giving the “special team” pitch to Ross, that he has already joined. But now we know different, and the events of Iron Man 2 where it seems Stark is coming into conflict with owning his own advanced technology and what that means to Homeland Security will all be taking place before he officially signs on to the Avenger Initiative that Fury was talking about in the previous film.

Its a tiny detail, but it sure sets the perspective on the films and the order they take place in relation to one another.

  1. I was never really under the impression that Stark’s presence in the Incredible Hulk had anything to do with the Avengers at al, but much rather a hint towards the Hulkbuster suits that are used by the military/government to take down the Hulk from time to time. I mean, the Stark Industries logo is already splayed across the blueprints for the soundwave Hummers in the opening credits… That might just be the next logical step as we move towards a Hulkbuster Ironman suit.

  2. Yeah, if you watch the 5 minute preview footage from Comic Con, they have the scene where Stark and Fury are in the doughnut shop and Stark resists joining Fury’s team.

  3. Makes sense. Tony probably refused Fury’s offer at the end of the first film, so the second movie is probably about Tony realizing that he can’t save the world by himself and then joining with Fury at the end.

      1. Nononono i dont care about the timeline at all…. it actuall makes sence, im just pissed because this whole time i thought i had it in my mind that the chronological order i was thinking about, was good
