It looks like the Mayor of Bethlehem is going to get a childhood dream come true. And benefit his city at the same time. He says in his childhood Megatron and Optimus Prime were often locked in battle over a fortress made of Lincoln Logs. Now the Transformers are coming to his town. With a big pile of money.
Filmmakers will shoot one of the movie’s opening scenes at the old Bethlehem Steel site next month and pour more than $500,000 into the city’s economy in the process, Callahan said during a news conference Friday.
And after the crew members fill up local hotels, buy supplies from local lumberyards and eat food from local caterers, Callahan said, he hopes they’ll spread the word in Hollywood about Bethlehem’s great locations for filming — including gigantic Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces that will be featured in the ”Transformers” scene.
Oh Little Town of Bethlehem. Your finally on the map. Overshadowed by the iconic Bethlehem of biblical age, you can finally make your mark in a summer blockbuster film. Too bad no one will know it is your town, since it is actually going to be some fictional city in China.
Hehe, the image just came into my head that the reason this scene is going to be in the movie is that it may include some transformers actually fixing or building new transformers. Transformers are Made in China? lol.
The money they bring into the city’s economy is staggering. Just one scene is going to bring that much money into town. I knew that the local areas always benefit from film crews, but I hadn’t considered how much.
@Jim, Extras dont get credits in movies, so you wont see their names when the credits roll. We have had a few readers say they were on set in Beth, but we don’t know for sure.

I had negative thoughts about the first one until I saw it. I was pleasantly surprised. Some things were annoying but it was alright. I’ll be checking this one out too.

I live in Austin and we are seeing a lot of film production moving here. The city is one of the few in the US growing, I think film is helping us a lot.
…who knows…. maybe they’ll get inspired by the video of a real life transformer. I actually saw this here in Austin during SXSW. A must for any transformers fan!!! :)
