Catwoman In Batman Begins 3?

Catwoman-Batman-3As much as I rail on Spider-Man 3 for how bad it was… it doesn’t even come close to how horrible Catwoman was. I mean really… it was almost as if they purposefully went out of their way to make the very worst film they could imagine. And they did a great job at it. Well done!

Ok, the reason I mention all of that is because of an interesting rumor our friends over at Cinemablend have posted about. Apparently according to them, the third film in the Nolan Batman world with include Catwoman in it. This is what they has to say:

Even more exciting than the idea that we may get the Joker in more than one movie is the identity of another villain who may be in Batman 3. According to our source, “it could also include a certain female feline as well.” Bear in mind that the script for Batman 3 hasn’t been written yet, so it’s all just talk at this stage. But if this really is something Nolan is kicking around for a future Batman project, then don’t be surprised to see a few hints at the future arrival of Catwoman in The Dark Knight.

Oh my goodness I really hope this is just rumor. Adding yet another mainline villain to the Batman saga… especially one like Catwoman at this point, would be a tragic mistake in my opinion. If they are indeed setting up Two Face to be the big bad guy in part 3… and Joker is going to be back… then why on earth would you squeeze yet ANOTHER key character like Catwoman into the mix? It just makes no sense to me at all.

On the other hand… maybe if you stuff Jessica Biel into that outfit…. ppprrrrrrr.

  1. I think Catwoman would be good for the batman movies. I just wouldn’t want Angelina Jolie to play her. I think she’s be fantastic for the role but the only problem is that it would be so similar to other roles she’s played that she wouldn’t be playing the role fresh, she’s just play her the same way she’s played all her other characters. She’s do the action well but not Selina Kyle as a person.

If she’s in a batman movie, I hope they’ll do what they did with the Joker, cast someone unexpected who blows everyone away rather than cast someone everyone’s expecting and then either everyone gets exactly what they thought they would or they all get disapointed.

  2. I think Catwoman would be great in the Nolan film. She is a woman who had a hard childhood and ended up on the streets. She becomes a prostitute and eventually a thief. She puts on the catsuit to gain power and control on a life that she had very little control in. I think this character fits perfectly with the universe that Nolan has created. She is sexy, dark and pissed off. It’s a far more interesting character than Batman’s current love interest in the films. Selina Kyle has depth and is not just the average cookie-cutter heroine.

I think Shannyn Sossamon, Olga Kurylenko or Megan Fox would be good in the role.

  3. I can see Halle Berry in the 3rd Nolan film. She’s fit perfectly, and her Catwoman movie could then be retconned as a prologue to the Nolan Batman films. I like that.

  4. I heared alot of rumors from the Batman camp. I would love catwomen in a Batman movie directed by Nole. I love to see his take on the charater. However, right now as it stand Batman 3 seems to be a full picture with Two-Face and Joker. Now maybe we could see Sleena Kyle as a Hooker (that was her orginal backstory in the comics) and she gets rescued by the dark knight. This gives her insperation to dawn the cat suit however she has a diffrent opinion on what Batman does. That gives her realistic appeal that Nole likes and it gives her a bit of a mental dillusion of how she see Batman and why she so attracted to him. But that should be saved for Batman 4 cant do it in Batman 3.

  5. Na this is just a rumor. It’s just so over the top ridiculous and stupid and we all know, from watching Batman Begins, the Chris Nolan is niether ridiculous nor is he stupid.

This is just some guy who may have heard some of the guys who are involved in the over-all direction of the franchise say something like, “hmmmm I wonder if we should squeeze another villain in there.”

    “Yea maybe CATWOMAN! HAHAHAHAHA”

    “HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

“Your a funny guy. You’re getting a raise.”

Anyways, these guy bringing forth new news on Batman: The Dark Knight and the movies to come are probably just being told to take any little tiny little piece of….anything that they may over hear or discover and turn it into a story. BOOM! There’s your answer.

I refuse to think that Hollywood doesn’t learn from it’s ridiculous mistakes; i.e. Spiderman 3. No way somebody else will do THAT again.

  6. Yes, The Catwoman movie stunk. Yes, congrats to Halle on finally getting a bun in the oven. But Catwoman didn’t stink in Batman Returns, and persoonally Gio, I think you are overreacting to the news.

That said, I don’t want Catwoman in Brave & The Bold, Batman Detective,or whatever they are going to name the third movie. Someone out there want to really right a wrong? Fine. Get Bane.

But I’d like to see a Bat-villian that has been untapped, say, Deadshot or Ventriloquist and Scarface, Anarky, and so on. Heck, where’s Talia AlGhul?

  7. “It’d be easy to introduce a few characters without them having to become a main villain in the movie. If the Joker survives he’ll have a small part in the third and it can easily be done with Catwoman too.”

Exactly SadSteve, when Alfred said “Who knows Master Wayne, if you start pretending to have fun, and you might have a little by addicent.” great way to introduce Selina Kyle, who’s also in high society and leds a double life, like in Batman: The Animated Series.

  8. Oh C’mon you guys. Catwoman is still the villain we all want to see! Tight leather suit. It’d be easy to introduce a few characters without them having to become a main villain in the movie. If the Joker survives he’ll have a small part in the third and it can easily be done with Catwoman too.

He did a good job of it in Batman Begins.

  9. To early to start jumping to conclusions, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to introduce another villain. It really is subjective to how much time and effort is spent on that character throughout the movie. I mean, if it’s introducing her to make her the prime competition in the 4th instalment while Batman finishes off Joker and/or Two-Face in the third movie, I don’t see a problem. But, like you state John, if it’s something where it turns into Spiderman 3, then that sucks so much ass, it might as well have Adam Sandler in it! LOL.

  10. Catwoman has been done, and would fit in Nolan’s world as good as Robin would. Don’t get me wrong, Catwoman is interesting, but the wrong character for the world Nolan has created.

Andrea Beaumont a.k.a The Phantasm on the other hand, would be perfect for this franchise. Not because of the darkness of the character, but rather the very human and emotional elements that can be played off of Bruce/Batman, making him question his role in the war on crime even further and treating us to an endless array of great stories.

Batman Begins was a great film, but I still hold that Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman film to date; so why not adapt a more mature Catwomanesque character to the big screen like the Phantasm?

If you haven’t seen Mask of the Phantasm, I definitely recommend checking it out.

What is disappointing though, is that this character may never make it to live action successfully because of the filmmakers having Harvey Dent already playing her fiddle as well as being a more recognized and favorable character. Phantasm would be seen as a rehash.

But of course, any amount of villains can fit into a Batman film, especially when the main theme goes beyond just fear but also that EVERYONE has a dark side, and everyone is a criminal. These aren’t villains with tentacles and gliders mind like in Spider-Man mind you. The filmmakers didn’t choose to dwell in a mess of origin stories as well.

That is how they fit Ra’s Al Ghul, The Roman, Victor Zsaz, Scarecrow, Joe Chill, Detective Flass, and Mr. Earle all into the first film, along with your average low-life thugs, Arkham inmates, and corrupt police officers.

Corruption dips into the majority of people’s lives in Gotham. This is also why Gotham was intended to be destroyed, its just a breeding ground for evil. Enter Batman. Enter Escalation. Enter a Long Halloween.

  11. This is purely speculative at this point, so Ill take it witha grain of salt. If there are indeed some foreshadowing scenes in TDK for the possible appearance of Catwoman later on, I dont see a problem with it.

We dont know for sure whats really going on with TDK yet, so to get worked up about the 3rd one now is a waste.

If Joker is the main villain in TDK along with some mafia thugs and the emergance of Two-face at the end, then why not go into a third where you have Two-face as a main villain, Joker being resolved early on and a bit part by Catwoman?

Now if they try to split screen time and story equally between all of them then yes, vey bad idea. But I trust Nolan not to be that foolish.

There is a way you can properly weave multiple characters into a story like this, the key is to be subtle and patient, not trying to tell too many stories at once but just dropping hints and foreshadowing.

  12. They would have to find one hell of an actress for this to even come close to Michelle Pfeiffer in BATMAN RETURNS.
She really set the mark so high, I don’t think anyone could top it. Jessica Biel? Forget it! In fact, Michelle should do it again, she still is as gorgeous as she was 17 years ago. Man that woman is so fucking beautiful, it’s almost criminal.
I can’t think of anyone being suited for that part right now.
If done right, they could make it work. Let Catwoman be some highly trained, specially equipped super-thief to ground it a bit more in reality than in the Burton version. Let her steal something insanely valuable, Batman comes in to investigate and there you go.
