Caruso Vs. Wiseman For Wolverine

wolv6.jpegIt looks like two men are being considered for the Director’s chair in the upcoming Wolverine film. We get the scoop from JoBlo:

IESB.net is reporting that Caruso is on a shortlist of two directors that 20th Century Fox has in mind to take command of their planned WOLVERINE spin-off. But apparently Caruso is also being seduced by Dreamworks for a mystery project, so Fox has another man on the list who goes by the name of Len Wiseman. Wiseman’s LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD has yet to be tested on the open market, but Willis has been talking him up in the press, and he’s married to Kate Beckinsale, so there’s no denying the man has got something that most people don’t, namely, a reason to live.

Wiseman and Caruso both have some experience in the director’s chair, but I am guessing it is their recent high profile work that is pushing them to the next level. Wiseman scored huge with Die Hard 4, and now Bruce Willis is talking him up like they are having sex with each other. Caruso has recently been in the spotlight due to the success of Suburbia.

I think I would feel safer if they got a more established director to do this project; but then again, you have to give the next generation a shot to prove themselves. I personally do not favor either of the two as of yet, so I will not be upset either way. I just hope the movie is kickass, Wolverine fans are insanely devoted to that character and will probably boil the chosen director in molten metal if they do a poor job.

If these are the two options, which director would you guys choose?

  1. Between the two…I would choose Wiseman. A lot of people didn’t like the Underworld series but I really enjoyed the look, action and layers of story. It had it’s short comings but they were stylish and I feel Wiseman would do a great job.

My other choices for director would be: Tony Scott, Guillermo Del Toro and Joe Carnahan. Tony scott for making gritty films w/ style (although I don’t want much filmburn effects) and Del Toro for what he did for Blade II (by far the best of the series). Joe Carnahan for what he did with Narc. Joe’s Smokin Aces was good if he simplified the plot but he has the ability to strip his characters totally raw and he brings characters to the edge of sanity.

I would really like to see Wolverine in a gritty horror style movie similar to Blade II. Just Wolverine and some mutant beast like the comics “Proteus”. Here’s dreaming…

  2. wiseman is probably the bets choice for this movie …hey look at underworld it would make absolute sense to use him considering the fact that hey is the wolf man

  3. While I think Wiesman will sadly be “the fans choice” due to Die Hard and Underworld, my vote goes to DJ Caruso.

Caruso, as Doug noted, just came off a (surprise) hit, but Caruso has directed thrillers before, notably one of my favorites in recent years “The Salton Sea”. Sadly, he also directed Anjelina Jolie in “Taking Lives” and Al Pacino in “Two For The Money”.

TV wise, he’s directed eps of The Shield….and Smallville (“Shimmer”).

But, friends, like it was noted above…BOTH are better than Ratner.

  4. Neither one does much for me, but at least its not Brett Ratner. If Wiseman somehow doesn’t ruin Die Hard 4, then he’ll probably be the shoe in for it. As long as the script is solid, then hopefully Jackman knows the character well enough by now to not let it become completely derailed (like Willis / Die Hard). Doesn’t look good, but one can hope, anyway.
