The Number 23 Clips

Number-23I’ve always had a lot of respect for Jim Carrey as a performer. Yes, he’s a great comedic actor, but I’ve always found him to be more than serviceable as a dramatic actor… although he’s been guilty of overdoing it a little in those roles.

So you can understand how interested I’ve been in seeing his new film “The Number 23“. This is a kind of role we’ve never seen him in before. I think the movie looks great, and I’m curious to see how well Carrey pulls it off.

Our good friends over at MoviesOnline have put up some clips from the film. I’ve got one below, but you can see more here.

  1. Sad to hear all my knee-jerk reactions to seeing this trailer confirmed. It looked like a bastardization of the 23 meme into something utterly ridiculous. I wrote a little pre-release thing about it. There’s another, better 23 movie which much less hype that’s worth your while, but you gotta dig around for it.

  2. I also absolutely despise Joel Schumacher. Even his “good” movies, and we’re talking about 15 years ago here (before the terrible Batman & Robin and awful Batman Forever) have elements of over the top unbelievability that make it hard to become engaged in the film.

He takes serious topics like snuff films (8MM), people who snap in public (Falling Down), and death (Flatliners) and somehow turns them into cheesy mainstream movies.

    He’s a hack, really.

  3. i disagree – i saw it and – as you can see by the moniker – thought it was fun – and thought Carrey as Fingerling was his best dramatic work yet. he played the edgy, frayed detective with surprising ease and believability. i’d see it again just to see how he pulled that off.

  4. Just got back from the press screening for this movie and I have to say it was completely underwhelming, hugely predictable and Jim Carrey does not work as a scary/crazy/murderous man. He was good in “Man on the Moon” and even “The Truman Show”, but this turn is lame. It was a short movie and, again, not thrilling, frightening or interesting. Carrey is talented, to be sure, but “incredible actor” he is not.

  5. Red flags for me here
    1) Other than The Truman show, I can’t buy Jim Carrey as the straight man. Too many years of watching him talk out of his ass in Ace Ventura, I guess.

    2) Directed by Joel Shitmaker.

  6. John, a little warning from me here:
I already saw “The Number 23” and let me tell you, don’t expect anything from this, it is one of the worst thrillers I have ever seen. Really, it’s that bad.
The plot is ridiculous, the story makes no sense at all and is full of holes and overall this movie is never engaging nor exciting for one minute.
I love both Jim Carrey and Virginia Madsen as actors, but even they couldn’t save this trainwreck. Although you have to give them points for trying, it’s not their fault this is a total catastrophe, they do their best with what they are given.
Joel Schumacher has done it again, I can only warn people:
    DON’T SEE THIS!!!!

  7. I’ve only seen Jim Carrey in comedies so this will be an interesting change for me. Good actors can play the part, right? I thought The Phone Booth was intense so I’m sure this has good prospects. The clip I just saw has peaked my interest that’s for sure.
