Balls of Fury pushed back until September

balls.jpgApparently the new trend in movies this year is to postpone the release date, the new comedy Balls of Fury starring Christopher Walken joins the growing list of films who have had their release date pushed back. The folks over at moviesonline.ca have more on this:

Balls of Fury has been pushed from April to September. Balls of Fury is about a secret society, the competition is brutal and the stakes are high. It is the unsanctioned, underground, and utterly unhinged world of clandestine Ping-Pong tournaments. Down-and-out former professional Ping-Pong phenom Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) is sucked into this maelstrom when FBI Agent Rodriguez (George Lopez) recruits him for a secret mission. Randy is determined to bounce back and win, and to smoke out his father’s killer – arch-fiend Feng (Christopher Walken).

I am starting to wonder if this has to do with things other than the movies sucking, but with this movie it could very well be that. Not that I don’t love the concept, or Walken for that matter (I bow down to you oh Walken) but this movie could be junk. As for the four or five other movies that have postponed in the last few days, some of them look quite good.

So what are the other reasons? I’m just guessing here but maybe…they’re being postponed because the distribution company will offer them more theaters if they release at a different time (which could happen if the company has a few coming out in close proximity to each other), or it could be that there is a scandal about to rock one of the stars and the studio has decided to wait until the commotion dies down, or it could be that the movie is so good that they want to release it later on so that it doesn’t get forgotten for next year’s Oscar season.

With this movie, as much as the trailer looks great I am betting that they postponing it so that they can re-edit a few things and make it a better flick.

  1. No doubt it will have a few funny moments, but i was very unimpressed with the trailer. At the end of it i simply thought, “Wow. That looks dumb. But… it has Walken in it…”

You could have a film of someone getting a root canal and put Walken in the back and it would have funny parts. Doesn’t mean the overall piece will be “funny”.

  2. This was a short film of the same name. I saw at the Beverly Hills Film Festival in 2005. They made the thing a fucken movie. Goes to show you can make your dreams come true.
