300 Teaser Posters Released

Ever since I took a look at the 300 graphic novel on John’s coffee table, I have been eager to see this movie. Ever visual about it seems to just drool with the style of the book. Now we get a peek at some of the posters. I can’t say I am excited about them, but it doesnt dampen my excitement to see this movie.

Empire Online reports:

Feast your eyes on three of the main characters – Gerard Butler’s Leonidas, King of the Spartans, who launches a desperate effort to stop an army of 250,000 with a force of 300; Rodrigo Santoro’s chain-attired Xerxes, the Persian Emperor; and Lena Headey’s feisty and firey Queen Gorgo, Leonidas’ wife and herself part of the war effort. And as if that weren’t enough, you also get a glimpse of one of the film’s crazy Persian warriors, the gigantic chained “über-Immortal”, the scariest member of Xerxes’ personal guard, the 10,000 Immortals

Go Here to see the images they are talking about.

The characters in the posters are all very appealing and true to the gritty style of the book. That part I really dont like so much is the splash motivation blurb spewed across the sky behind them. Personally I would have liked to have seen the simple stylized 300 title behind them with a simple character name hovering subtly below.

What do you think? Are they too much? Too little? Just right?

  1. I hear ya, Rod

Didnt mean to get so jazzed about it, I just thought there were some people here who thought that it was the oficial TAGLINE for the movie when it so obviously isnt.

  2. Jay, no one is saying that its the official slogan of the movie (Ok, Alfie seems to think so)

Its the point that its the first impression you get. Given any real thought, we see that these scrawled slogans are more likely quotes or summaries of that character presented, but first impressions are what they are. First.

Aside from those text bits, I dont mind the posters. Its very popular to release posters that center around the characters. Lots of movies have created ad campaigns around this idea.

  3. I’m sorry folks but if you think the line is in reference to the movie as a whole then you need more than a little help.

Obviously they are just character posters with lines of dialogue from the character represented.

What about the “Dine in hell” poster?
Are there people out there who after reading that line will think the movie also comes with a nice steak dinner served at lucifer’s table?
    Jeez…

Am I the only one that understands what the line is referencing and the effect they are trying to achieve with this line of posters?

  4. The lines on the posters are either quotes of dialog spoken by or in reference to the character represented in the poster.

No offense, but if you’re actually stupid enough to think it is in reference to the film as a whole then please, go out and get a gun and shoot yourself. We really dont need your idiotic DNA screwing up our genepool.

“You will not enjoy this” is a line spoken by Queen Gorgo in the film.
    Makes perfect sense to me.

I do, however, think the font should have been different.

(editor’s note: I am not calling anyone here stupid. I am merely suggesting that you would have to be marginally unintelligent to think the line was in reference to the film as a whole) :P

  5. That was one guy that said that.

EVERY other review of the movie is positively bursting with excitement and enthusiasm for this movie.

    25 good reviews Vs 1 bad one….

  6. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31134 :

” Now, in order to truly convey the chief problem with this film, you have to have seen the trailer. I’m assuming, at this point, that you have. However, if for some reason you haven’t, you really need to – and can find it right here. There. Everyone caught up? Good. See all those gorgeous shots? That is a PERFECT representation of what you will see on the big screen. Now, don’t you just LOVE that stylish slow motion in all of the shots where there isn’t dialog? I sure hope you do. Because that’s not stylized for the trailer. That’s exactly how quickly every shot in this film moves.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Virtually every shot in this film that does not have dialog in it is in slow motion. It is a 2+ hour slow motion music video generally retelling Frank Miller’s classic retelling of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans. Sure, it is luscious and unbelievable. Sure it looks like the single greatest lucid dream ever dreamt. And, sure, about 20 minutes in that slow mo shit gets REAL old, REAL quick.”

  7. Mozzerno is right. You don’t want a tagline that tells people a movie isn’t enjoyable. Perhaps, “Resistance is Futile” would have been more fitting… :D

  8. I’m seeing this sucker opening day, no doubt about it.
HOWEVER, am I the only one thinking that “YOU WILL NOT ENJOY THIS!” isn’t the best tagline for a movie poster?

  9. I was already hyped about 300.

This one poster just makes me want to do all of the following:

    1) Be first in line;

    2) Make sure I have a mountain of popcorn and a river of cola;

    3) Lust after Lena.

    4) Pay full price and midnight show.

  10. It is a little too much, but Rodney I think it makes sense.

This is a movie that fanboys are watching closely, but several normal movie viewers (including those in the target demographic for this movie) have no heard of it and may not be paying attention to 300.

This poster may have been their push to grab people in that demo and have them interested in this movie…its about the buck draw, not the art of the poster most of the time.
