  1. What ties together your Golden Globe and Ray Nagin stories is this: nowadays the media flocks like high school punks to anything that sounds like a good fight. You would have gotten the same reaction if you had posted the ‘why do the globes hate gays’ story. They’ve discovered what movie makers always knew: conflict creates audiences. They love Clinton, Bush, Nagin and even Cruise because someone out there gets really pissed every time they speak. Now that we know we’re being manipulated this way, what is the real news? The weather is scary-weird, the world economy is an oil-addicted ponzi scheme, and Cubby Broccoli is an insane self-destructive maniac. Fire Brosnan? I’d like to know where he gets his drugs – or at least see Russell Crowe play Bond once.

  2. I didn’t think Nagy was being racist; nor did I call him that. All I meant was that he missed the point of the whole thing. Anyway, the New Orleans mayor did in fact apologize and clarify his point. It takes more of a leader to admit that he or she bungled up and admits it. and then moves on.

Just so people read me right.

  3. man. one of the topics of discussion was partially brought up by me and i still can’t listen to it. chalk it up to me not having private time, away from the 2 year old and the 11 year old to listen to you foul mouthed men rant about movies and such.

i needs an Ipod, man… sheesh.

i can’t wait to hear it.

  4. I obviously don’t support or endorse segregation of any kind.

I will suck a klingon’s cock if you want empirical proof of that.

Maybe I was not clear; It is obvious to me that his intentions were not to promote a “blacks only” city. The media made a mountain out of a molehill, much like the Dean scream. It was not a wise thing to say but I certainly doubt he meant it to be a statement that promotes racial division.

That being said if a while mayor said let us make a “vanilla city” there would obviously be hell to pay. So maybe people have right to be upset, fair enough.

In the context of the event, the holiday, and the purpose of the speech I hardly see how you can call the man a racist; he talks about race mixing in the speech. Was it a poor choice of words …sure. Is he deserving of the backlash, I don’t think so.

  5. I agree with Darren. Nagin’s comments were blatantly racist.

I’m from Minnesota. Just imagine if you will….

Downtown Minneapolis is virtually destroyed by a killer tornado that whips through the city laying it in ruin.

Months later, on MLK’s birthday, Mayor Rybak announces to the national press the following speech:

“This city will be vanilla at the end of the day. This city wil be a majority white man city. It’s the way God wants it to be. How do you make vanilla? You remove all the chocolate from the milk and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the vanilla I am talking about. Minneapolis was a vanilla city before the tornado.”

Can you imagine? You said the public crucified Nagin for these remarks. Are you kidding? They barely batted an eye. If a white mayor had said the same thing, THEN you would’ve seen a crucifixtion. And I’m talking possibly literally.

So Doug, this is something you support? No whitey in the city? Or for that matter no blacks? That’s fine if you think that; it’s your right to an opinion, but to say it was no big deal – in my opinion – is ridiculous. If it was no big deal, then why did he come out and apologize for it (not that it matters, his mind has been spoken)? It is quite possibly the most outrageously, racist statement I’ve ever heard from a major political figure. It’s sickening.

P.S. – Hulk sucked. ALL comic book movie suck…except Batman (’89) and Batman Returns…oh and I guess maybe X-Men was okay too.

  6. 1) It was going great until Doug got way off course with his ‘so what?’ about the New Orleans mayor.

Here is Nagin’s remarks from last Monday (Marin Luther King day):

“I don’t care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day,” he said. “This city will be a majority African-American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about. New Orleans was a chocolate city before Katrina.”

To be fair, Ray Nagin did clarify the statement and apologized, and I feel the apology should be accepted. However, some of the contreversy is justified:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-01-19-letters-nagin_x.htm

But Doug’s comments in the podcast was so far off the mark. Doug needs to keep chuggin’ every time he says ‘yknowwhatImean’ or quit the bottle altogether. “I don’t care if all America was chocolate” and missed the point of the contreversy. Is it a Canadian thing or something? Why did it get National Attention, you ask? Why do you think? side from the silly remark, it was a good speech from the mayor of New Orleans on MLK day- and because of the Katrina disaster last summer it would be newsworthy.

The term ‘chocolate’ suggested (in some minds) segreation. I was unaware Doug supported such thoughts. Maybe I shouldn’t give a care what happens in Canada.

By the way, two news reporters called up John Campea?! I suppose the stories never got to print. Maybe they thought they had another Gene Shalit on thier hands.

*BTW, you guys never did follow up on that; I found out that Shalit ‘apologized’, but also that Shalit’s son, who happens to be gay, came to his defense!*

    2) Hulk 2. I loved the first movie except the picture in picture thing which was a distraction.

    3) Spider-Man 3…son to be known as X-Men 3 1/2 with all the characters being added. Anyone got a scorecard?

    -Sealer Overnout.

  7. Great show as always guys :) I keep checking Doug’s site to see whether he is going to put up any thing that will get him the attention of the general press. I think Doug on CNN would be great to see :D

Good luck with the bloggie nominations (if they aint already out).
