Benchwarmers Trailer

BenchwarmersThe new Benchwarmers trailer has hit the net recently… and it’s every bit as sad as I thought it would be. I used to be a BIG David Spade fan, but he’s become just painful to watch ever since Joe Dirt. Don’t even get me started on Rob Schneider, and Jon Heder needs a better agent who won’t get him caught up in project like this one and allow his name to be associated with Spade’s and Schneider’s.

The idea behind the film sounds like it’s supposed to make you laugh… but it doesn’t:

The Benchwarmers tells the story of three guys who try to make up for their lack of athleticism when they were younger by forming a three-man baseball team to challenge a full squad of elementary school baseballers. They develop a large following of left-out kids as they head for a high-stakes, winner-take all game with the best team of kids in the state.

The Benchwarmers trailer looks like nothing but a poor mans Dodgeball… but without the talent or laughing. As a matter of fact the only potentially positive thing about this project that makes me even think that I MAY want to see it is the fact that Jon Lovitz is in it. After that… I’ve got nothing.

So go ahead and “treat” yourself the the Benchwarmers trailer over here. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  1. Why are you guys hating so badly, like these guys are actually trying to win an award? These are Spades and Schnieder’s specialty roles…they are good at these stupid movies and I happen to find them hilarious!!! The whole point is for the movie to be cheesy. I havent seen a Schnieder movie yet that hasnt made me laugh!!! I never really have found Spade to be all that funny…but as for Rob…man…keep em coming!!!

  2. What is going on with Jon Heder and the sports movies? He is doing this, the skinny sumo wrestler movie, and there is new news of a figure skating movie he might be doing with Will Ferrell. What are comedies and comediens going to do after every sport has been exploited?

  3. I was going to rip you, because I like Jon Heder and these type of comedies, even if Spade and Schneider often sucks.

But then I watched the trailer. It’s bad. Really bad. I hope they never releases it.

Schneider and Spade hasn’t been funny since their SNL-days.

  4. Not sure if you saw Heder on Saturday Night Live or not, but he’s pretty much a one-trick pony. The following week Catherine Zeta-Jones was great because she elevated the material. Heder couldn’t even tread water. It was painful to watch.

In short, I suspect Heder is exactly where he needs to be. Acting in B-comedies with other one-trick ponies.

But hey, maybe he’ll surprise me…time will tell.
