Audio Edition – October 28th 2005

It’s the end of the week and time for another installment of The Audio Edition

Today Doug and I talk about why we’ve been missing for the last two days, the decision by Fox to release Fantastic Four 2 on the exact same day as The Transformers, sad news that there may not be another Bubba Ho-Tep film, asking why on earth its going to take Peter Jackson 3 hours to tell a King Kong movie, Rambo 4 and Rocky 6 stuff as well as a few things more.

  1. hey john, i am almost positive tht the quest was NOT direct to video, at least here in the uk. i remember seeing some adverts for it on tv, but i do think it was only in the cinema for a couple of weeks at most. it was an… interesting…film. Roger Moore was the costar, and i seem to remember it being some weird mortal combat tournament kind of film, with a shiny golden prize at the end. it wasn’t bad, anfd the sheer fact that you had two actors as different as moore and van damn in it makes it a rental at least.

  2. I also think that the Transformers movie is not a real big deal in the rest of the world. I don’t even think it will make much of an impact on people in my country (Netherlands, y’all!) I could be wrong, of course.

Yeah, 3 hours of Kong sounds like too much.

  3. about the whole Transformers thing

you guys been talkin about it in damn near every show for the last couple months…talking about it like it’s the most wanted movie ever

hmmm maybe in the US and canada that movie is a big deal…but i’m curious to see how the movie will do internationally

i remember when Transformers was out as toys back in the day…and i guess the toy was pretty popular…but the tv show itself was not really a big deal and i doubt that many people here (Denmark, Scandinavia) even remember Transformers.

i doubt that many people out here will rush to the cinema just because it’s a Transformers movie.

i could be wrong…and if they come out swinging with a big ass promotion campaign maybe they can trick us into thinking that a Transformers movie is something we just gotta see

i dunno…but it’s gonna be interesting to see if people out here give a damn

  4. Okay.

Where to begin. Let’s start with Van Damme. Reading his films right off the IMDB was a good idea; saying that Rob Schnider was in Maximum Risk with him and the ‘hot babe’ (meaning Natasha Henstridge) was not. Schnider was in Knock Off. I also have to disagree that all of Van Damme’s recent DTV were bad. ‘Wake Of Death” was the best film he was in since ‘Maximum Risk’. Also, in the DTV/cable film ‘Replicant’ he had one of his dual roles. One ‘clone’ was a serial killer! While I did like ‘Black Eagle’ as well, it pissed me off too. I remembered how his bad KGB villian bought it -knocked in head by a boat!

As for ‘Cyborg’…well…you will love your Al Pyun directed movie, and I will still love Oliver Gruiner in ‘Nemesis’…and Debroah Shelton too. Other than his debut in Sword and The Soorcerer, avoid all Al Pyun films at any cost.

I do think a Snipes-Van Damme team up will be neat stuff.

    2) Transformers vs. Fantastic Four.

I too, was among the disappointed in the FF, and I think you are on to something when even if you think the sequel could be better than the first, moost audiences might not be that exited as they once were. “Spider-Man” is a good example. The sequel to Spidey was far better than the first with audiences and critics, yet it did not match the box office of its predesessor. So, even if FF2 is better than the first, it is an uphill battle.

Now, I am not a fan of Micheal Bay’s. When I started to like his last film, (“the Island”- did that REALLY come out last summer? I almost forgot) the last half was all hackmeister. Anything Bay touches I avoid like it was poison. This is why I think Fox made this bold move. Bay’s previous film was a dud, and the MTV cookie cutter no-plot no story films with the ADD editing have sputtered out and died horrible deaths this past summer.

    It wasn’t a stupid move.

I’m not a big Transformers fan either, but a product in pop cuture is a different story, since the said film has to pass two basic criteria:

    a) Can it appease the fans?

    b) Can it bring in new fans?

Since there is a strong fanbase, because it will be precieved as new or fresh, it does in fact, have the upper hand against the FF or any other sequel. But if I am a friend of the Movie Blog, as of now (at least for a brief speck of a moment) I am, in fact, the worst enemy. I think Transformers will blink. More specifically, it will blink due to production problems.

    3) Sly.

Glad to see you liked Oscar. Hilarious film. But I’d much rather see Sly do a sequel to Demolition Man. Dammit, Sandra Bullock needs a hit too. Since Sly’s doing sequels to Rocky and Rambo (Rambo has more potential) what do you guys think?

    Judge Dredd 2? Cobra 2?

Okay. Didn’t mean to scare anyone. Halloween’s a few days away.

    Sealer out.

  5. John, Doug I find your lack of faith disturbing! I had the total opposite reaction. 3hours of Kong. Yeehaw! Another EPIC Christmas Present from PJ! The movie will have major dino action, plus he is including a cut sequence from the original with the spiders!

This is the type of movie that will bring people back to the theaters! You wanted to know what will get people to go to the theaters again? Movies like LOTR and Kong! Big and bold!

  6. hey john campea,

did you check out some of the npr.org movie reviews or the ones at movies.ksl.com? what do you think of those sites?

I really enjoyed that audio edition where u interviewed that guy about blu-ray dvds.
