Russell Crowe’s Biggest Fan is Russell Crowe

When it comes to his talents as an actor, I will defy anyone to convince me that Russell Crowe isn’t at LEAST in the top 5 best actors living today. He is powerful, diverse and totally captivating when he’s in front of a camera. He is just that damn good. However…

This guy is just so damn full of himself it’s making it difficult to separate the man off camera from the characters he plays on the screen. In other words… he’s proving to be such a jerk that it’s difficult to enjoy his amazing work.

In recent weeks we’ve talked about his claims of such self importance that Al-Qaeda wanted to kidnap him to destabilize our culture, and how he’s publicly taken shots at guys like Harrison Ford and Robert De Niro. Now Mr. Crowe wants to tell us all how great of a rock star he is. The good folks over at the BBC give us this:

He said his forthcoming album touched on varying subjects including “my beautiful wife, past relationships, my son, people I know, family tragedy”.

“It is without doubt the most satisfying record I’ve ever made, and I know when you hear it you will be seduced by its beauty,” said Crowe.

“I have e-mails from Sting and Billy Bragg, two of my songwriting heroes that give testament to the quiet power of the song.”

Yeah… this guy’s material has so much “beauty” and “quiet power” that his last album sold… are you ready for this… 156 copies in it’s first week of release. Whatever happened to saying “I hope you enjoy it”, or “I hope people like it” instead of telling me how frickin fantastic you are and that if I had any taste I’d buy your junk? It’s called humility, learn some you arrogant ass. I really WANT to be a fan of Crowe… but the man makes it pretty damn hard.

  1. Come on guys….those of you who are saying “it doesn’t matter if the guy is smug”, etc.

It’s not a matter of him being a pretentious git because he can act. It’s a matter of physical assault that he’s committed more than once and the insulting of us Americans who have helped make him rich!

I’m sorry but I still feel….American Pride; boycott his films!

  2. aquih do brasil,

  3. RUSSELL WHO???????????????? Career over. I saw him at Bruce’s old hangout, the Stone Poney. I thought the band was good, but he sucked. He was so nasty and obnoxious.

  4. I don’t care. I just don’t want to see anyone trying to hoist this one on Australia. Blame New Zealand :)

I think I speak for everyone here when I say you can have him KDF. Oz doesn’t want him.

  5. Jason, check out a band called 30 Seconds To Mars. It’s Jared Leto’s band. They are actually really good musically and his voice isn’t bad. They were so highly thought of when they entered the studio that Puddle of Mudd asked them to tour with them, prior to even hearing a single song.

  6. heh..every now and then local TV shows here in New Zealand will dig out some of Mr Crowe’s early musical gems for a laugh – he lived here as a teenager and stayed into his early 20s I think. During that time he had a failed musical career calling himself “Russ le Roq”..one or 2 videos survive and are hillarious..surprised he hasn’t paid big $$$ for them to be destroyed yet.

  7. What’s worse is definitely a singer trying to act. At least an actor has the training or ability to fake singing, and when that fails, they can always be coached on how to lip synch. Just as George Clooney. ;-D

  8. i’ve met russ a few time and he a pretty nice guy. he even signed my girls plaster cast.

some of his music is ok too, he’s slowly getting better. Maybe this new album is good? I haven’t heard anything from it yet?

anyways, he just says whats on his mind at the time, where as other big name stars try to say the right thing all the time to please mass’s.

lets see if his new album wins any music awards this year? ;) by the way, whats worst? seeing a singer try to act or a actor tring to sing??

    have a great easter all!

  9. I aware that many in the big world of hollywood are people that would not really be very nice face to face….but money and power will do that to a person. What I am saying is that over time….people who don’t “cover” who they truly are….when your on the down side of a career….media wont cover for you and say nice things….the flip side of fame can hurt. And if you were rememebered for a bunch of bar fights and unkind remarks about Top Notch Actors: IE: Pacino and Deniro on the “Selling themselves” remark….your gonna get it from both ends. He is already casting himself as an outsider….Look at it this way…..20 15 years ago…..Mike jackson could say and do anything he wanted….he was selling records….now that he is not….he’s not bullet proof like he was.

  10. I agree with you there Arethusa, its not as if Russell Crowe’s “personality” is an isolated case in showbusiness, I am sure there are more out there but if they can ACT, and I mean really ACT, who really cares? I know not me.

  11. I don’t really care about actor’s personalities really: whether they’re mean bitches, prima donnas, smug, whiney…whatever. As long as they act well in the films I go to see ergo giving me an enjoyable experience and a well spent $6-$10, they can be whatever they like, short of a serious criminal or doing something that goes against a deeply held belief of mine. You know, something drastic. Hyping albums doesn’t fall under that for me.

  12. Personally I dont have a problem with him saying that. I still like Russell Crowe. If he can still deliver with great performances, I dont mind him being smug about it.

  13. Why would we get messed up in the head over Russ? Isn’t he from way down south? I feel like he plays that “Mad Max”….crazy Aussie guy to a tee. Say what you want….I bet it would be a real experience to sit at a local pub with him and wait for someone to ask for his Autograph at the wrong time…….cant wait to see the train wreck when his movies dont make anymore $$$$….I remember Sly Stallon being a cocky, self absorbed a hole in the 80’s…..now look…..begging MGM to let him do another Rocky and searching for TV time in the “Real-ity World”. Good luck…..history says that movie goers only handle Big Headed Actors for so long….and not long after they make it clear they think they are better than the SMALL people that pay to go see the next great flick they put out…

  14. Hey there Kenn

Yeah, I’m not debating that the basics facts were true… it’s just the way he talked about thim in the original interview.

Many stars were under warning from the FBI… but Crowe just talked about it like he was the focal point of Western Pop Culture. He is just do damn high on himself. He’s got the talent to back it up… but it’s still annoying.

    Cheers.

  15. He calls this new album “relavatory”. Bwhaaaaaaaaaaaahh…. *thud*

Help. I just fell off my computer chair and can’t get up. I’m laughing too hard. Anyone? Hello? Bueller?

  16. Believe me, I am not one for excusing Crowe’s behavior, but the Al Queda statement was true. I remember a few years past when the FBI was protecting him and they didn’t say anything but that there were threats made against him. I also remember when the goverment (mine, USA) warned the Hollywood Studios that they had reason to believe that Al Queda was looking to hit a studio. In fact, I was out there taking meetings and remember all the security measures that weren’t there a year earlier. Even take out delivery men weren’t allowed on the lots.
