Apple Original Films has officially unveiled the trailer for The Dink, a new sports comedy set to premiere globally on Apple TV on July 24, 2026. The film follows a former tennis prodigy who finds himself caught between his past and a new obsession.
In the film, Dusty Boyd, played by Jake Johnson, is a washed-up tennis player struggling to gain the approval of his father, Chuck, portrayed by Ed Harris. While working at his father’s country club, Dusty is forced to confront his athletic failures and a growing rivalry involving the club’s new favorite pastime: pickleball. After an injury prevents him from playing tennis, Dusty reluctantly tries the sport and finds an unexpected partner in Candace, played by Mary Steenburgen.
A New Underdog Story
The film is directed by Josh Greenbaum, known for his work on Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, from a script written by Sean Clements. The project is produced by Ben Stiller, who also appears in the film alongside an ensemble cast that includes Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, and tennis star Andy Roddick.
The premise offers a lighthearted look at the cultural phenomenon of pickleball while grounding the story in the classic tropes of an underdog sports comedy. With a mix of established comedic talent and a premise centered on the clash between traditional tennis and the rising popularity of pickleball, the film aims to deliver a humorous take on personal identity and family expectations.
