To explore this twisty romance genre, Bollywood released a spiritual sequel to the 2020 rom-com “Ginny Weds Sunny” in theaters on April 24, 2026. Titled “Ginny Wedss Sunny 2”, the Hindi film features Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr as the titular couple. This rom-com has been co-produced by Soundrya Production and Zee Studios and written and directed by Prasshant Jha.

The Good:

Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 arrives with a familiar promise of its 2020 prequel with relatability, quirks, and feel-good beats. Its cinematography and sets are colourful and lively. People were somewhat excited about this film. However, it fails to keep up with that promise. Here’s why.

The Bad:

This follow-up spiritual sequel of a small-town rom-com falls flat in conviction. Upon watching it, you would have an underwhelming and exhausting experience with a sluggish screenplay that fails to find its footing. Except for a faint glimmer of charm in certain instances, the screenplay feels mediocre.

The genre or the plot is not the issue. We have witnessed in the past that such light-hearted rom-coms can work wonders if properly made and presented. The drawbacks lie in the directional approach towards building up emotions and romance, as well as in the character development.

The lead characters, Ginny (Medha Shankr) and Sunny (Avinash Tiwary), are thinly sketched, lack depth, and are difficult to connect with. Their journey falls short of emotions, making the audience lose interest in their relationship and personal conflicts. Moreover, the limitations in the script further diminish Medha and Avinash’s performances, rendering their chemistry unconvincing as a couple.

The Bouncy Track “Chhaap Tilak” From Ginny Wedss Sunny 2

The story transitions from character introductions of Ginny and Sunny to their montage-driven, frustrating search for partners. During their arranged marriage meet-up, they both try to conceal their original selves from one another until finally an outburst occurs on their wedding night. Ginny resumed her true self after drinking, and her openness clashed violently with Sunny’s expectations of a shy and subdued partner.

This predictable plot twist in the middle gives audiences every hint of what’s coming up next, thus taking a heavy toll on their excitement and thrill. Besides, we had witnessed a very similar scene in the 2025 rom-com Dhoom Dhaam, which featured Pratik Gandhi and Yami Gautam.

I personally feel that Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 is a clichéd and poorly assembled version of already established rom-com stories. It lacks its own voice. It has a lot of familiarity with eccentric and exaggerated supporting characters and the lead cast falling into escalated, abrupt situations. The story is not freshly crafted and thus loses its engagement value.

The Soulful Track “Aye Khudaa” — Presenting Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr

The humor is crude, inconsistent, and situation-based. The screenplay is filled with cheap dialogues which fails to evoke laughter.

Even though it superficially handles social themes like women’s independence and right to make personal choices, these are just portrayed but not sincerely explored. Such instances appear briefly but then dissolve into the shoddy narrative and become unimpactful.

Moreover, there are abrupt placements of the background music and romantic tracks within the screenplay. It appears as if the makers have deliberately adjusted the background music and tracks unevenly within the script so as to cover up the imperfections.

The Verdict: A Disengaging And Torturous Watch!

Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 disappoints us and ruins our expectations of a hilarious rom-com. It renders an incomplete experience. It barely entertains and struggles with its emotional connection as well.

I am also amused at how anyone can be portrayed as a dominating champion professional wrestler nowadays. I mean, I have the experience, and I know how hard it is to train and achieve the skills and physicality of a wrestler. Avinash Tiwary, as a state-level wrestler who dominates his opponents in matches, is a big turn-off in itself as he appears fake and direly unconvincing with his fragile frame. I am being brutally honest here.

…And They Lived Happily Ever After!

The fact is, Avinash won’t survive a confrontation with a real wrestler. Likewise, any sane person won’t survive in the theater while watching this film. They can get jeopardized with boredom.

Overall, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 is an underrated rom-com. And let it remain underrated only! Do not dare to watch this movie, or you may suffer severe depression later on.

Theaters must consider running this film free of cost, because if you spend money to watch it, you would literally feel that you have donated that amount to some useless cause. In short, this is not a film. It’s a mess!

Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 (2026): Not Just Disappointing, But Frustrating!

Even a self-made lead cast like Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar, along with a strong ensemble of supporting actors, cannot save this rom-com from becoming a disaster. “Ginny Wedss Sunny 2” highly disappoints by ruining the audience’s expectations of watching a gut-bursting and emotional romantic drama.

Pros

Good quality and vibrant cinematography and sets

Cons

Sluggish screenplay with a clichéd storyline that lacks emotional investment

Unconvincing chemistry between the lead cast due to poor character development

Crude and inconsistent humor, which fails to instill laughter

Abrupt placement of background music and romantic tracks within the screenplay
